it looks like it's a ripped out magazine page, right?

everything in that room is gorgeous. you have great taste!! I love the coffee tables and the couches and the wall color... but you're right, all together they don't look stunning.

I'm not really digging the wall art, but I think I just don't like it with the wall color.

i would paint just one wall.. maybe the one behind the couch, a subtly different/lighter color. You could even keep in the same palette (lighter gray?)

those windows are gorgeous! I think maybe floor-length curtains would add *something* to the room. and you don't ever have to actually close the curtains... (i think pulled together at the top then tucked to the sides with those curtain wall hooks a little lower than half-way down would create a graceful angle)

I love this! The lamp is awesome either way, but the after definitely looks more "now" and less funky-retro.

good job :)

oh and on second thought, it looks like that room is a little awkwardly situated for the furniture you have. Do you plan on having lots of people over often or could you handle losing either the loveseat or the couch? they look crowded and it looks like the walkway through the room goes right between the tv and the couch.

move the couch up so the walkway goes behind it (hopefully that leaves enough room so you're not like 2 feet from the tv?) and put the loveseat in storage (or mail it to me! lol)

you can get a cool sideboard table or china hutch-style thing to put where the couch is now for books/movies/etc?

I would pick a definite accent color.. you have white, navy and black... how about a butterscotch/gold-yellow? or a nice orange? or lighter blue? get large, patterned floor-to-ceiling curtains with the color you pick.. pillows in the same color... bind up any loose cords from that entertainment center, and maybe mount the tv on the wall if you can.

So what actually happens if they say "no paint" and you paint anyway? (you'd just have to paint it back before you move...) you could PROBABLY get away with breaking up the wall by painting the bottom half with "almost white" pale gray.

it looks dark in there. LAMPS!

large framed posters would look good in there.

and i agree with the person who said plants in the window sill.

and what the heck is that giant black thing in the corner next to the couch? can it go in a closet?!

I agree with asking them to furnish a couch or something! Especially since they don't want you bringing anything of your own in.

otherwise, I totally vote for a hammock!

Getting Comfy in a Dorm That Doesn't Allow Furniture? Good Questions

Can I be a Negative Nelly and say, even though the newly uncovered woodgrain is beautiful (and undoubtedly a ton of work).... I still think this dresser as a whole is kind of ugly? Obviously it's nicer than the "before" but... yeah. Not feeling that grey paint or the drawer pulls. Maybe if I saw it set in a room where it looked great in it's context it would make more sense.

TUPELO HONEY CAFE.....that is a cookbook from a restaurant in Asheville, where I live. I got so silly excited about seeing that.

and the pallet coffee table is nice, too.

I have a vintage hancock and moore loveseat as my main couch, it's tufted vinyl/fake leather. I have a dog and her fur wipes right off.

I doubt vinyl makes an enticing scratching post! I vote go the fake leather route!

P.S. hang some curtains? those bare windows are a bigger problem than the walls! I would get long curtains and hang them a foot or more above the actual windows the emphasize height in that room..

OH MY GOSH DON'T PAINT!

Update other ways. That room would look AMAZING if you actually went *with* the woodsy theme. Think cast iron, taxidermy, dark colors. Twigs. lots of different shades of brown. big (not dainty) furniture. one or more trunks. Throw in bright, cheerful pops of mustard, soft medium blue, grassy green.
