For gathering recipes - I usually do a print out of it, or make note in my grocery list where I found the recipe (so I can remember why I bought this random group of ingredients).

Then for recipe storage... I have a big blank book. And everytime we try a new recipe, we decide if it's "book-worthy". If it is, it goes in the book. That way - when I'm looking for one specific recipe that we know we love, I have ONE place to look.
The book is NOT organized though, just add them in (by hand) when we make them. So Mom's cookie recipe is right near a chili recipe etc - but I can always find things there.

Not sure what to do when I run out of room in the book.

Mine is - smoked sea salt. It smells amazing - but I have NO idea what to do with it.

Also - a can of gravy that was supposed to go in some long forgetten crockpot recipe. I hate gravy of all kinds - I'm not sure what I was thinking...

We don't have anything at our cottage that we'd be upset to see broken or lost.
Also - this year I emptied the fridge & put in all new condiments with dates on the bottles - so now no one has to wonder how old that bottle of mustard is.

Absolutely! We had a mini station wagon & my dad built some shelving contraption for the wagon part of it, so it would be flush with the tops of the back seat. He also made a cushion for that area & that is where the dog & I spent our road trips (which were never less than 10 hours). I am sure, looking back on it now - I would have been a projectile should we have ever been in an accident.

I agree too Kealoha - I am convinced that she leaves out one critical ingredient or step in every recipe/craft project she has. I've never had any of her stuff turn out for me - so I've completely given up.

I have a cookbook from my grandmother (publish date - 1943) and I just loving reading it. I don't know that I could make anything out of it - I think meat is leaner now? but I love reading about how (and why) to pasturize milk.

I love a real tree - and decorated with ornaments that all mean something. No color scheme, just memories. I try to buy an ornament of some kind when ever my husband & I travel so we can add to the collection.

My only problem is - I can't find anything that I love enough to put on the top of the tree. We had a star growing up - but it too had meaning. (and still lives on my parents tree). So I am stumped there ever year.

I converted a non-cheese eater (I know, who doesn't love cheese) into a mac & cheese lover with mine. Simple white sauce with cheese, nearly baked noodles, piled into a casserole dish, topped with panko & possibly more cheese.
But the other night - I added cubes of chicken that I had browned up with onions - and carmelized onions are now going to be added into the recipe on a permanent basis.

I have been hanging on to corks from wine that we've had (planning on making a bulletin board from them eventually).
And I walk the beach by the cottage & pick up beach/sea glass/cool rocks/pottery that washes up to decorate the cottage.

My cat is theripetomatos (-es?-'s?) cat. He has been trained that tables & counters are NOT for kitties - and he's quite mannerly in this regard. Unless.
Unless there are fresh cut flowers or a plant on any surface. Then he cannot resist. If I put them on top of a high shelf - he will sit in front of the shelf and just cry. (he likes to eat the flowers)

If you're in the fridge though - he will often sneak around your legs to see what you're looking at. He'll do this with all windows too.

@ undercover - that would make me ROAR. I'd be so angry - I'd be writing letters.
That's the kind of the thing that irritates me. If we want our children (and I don't have any yet - but have a ton of nieces & nephews) to be all that they want to be - we need to show them all they can be. They can ALL be astronauts and ballerinas and doctors and engineers. Why not show them all of that?

I was a girl who liked pink for a while and I don't think it hurt me - but I also know that my sisters and I had matchbox cars with those plastic orange tracks (product of the 70s) and giant (primary colored) tinkertoys. I don't think we had a single pink toy. And quite frankly - The Pink Aisle creeped me out as a little kid - like I was supposed to like the stuff in that section - but I had NO interest in dolls, or whatever. (that section still creeps me out)

I saw sets of onesies a few years back that said "Future Princess" and "Daddy's Girl". The boy option was "Future Engineer" and "Daddy's Boy". That made me angrier than the fact they were color coded.
But I'm the auntie who will NOT buy pink (or really - blue) for any of the kids I know. I try to find the toys/clothes that all kids will like - Fisher Price people, little denim overalls (nothing cuter than a kid in overalls).
