Well you had me at the first photo.

Here's why I love this house: it's eclectic without being twee or precious. I love that you have pictures on the fridge and a plastic slide in the backyard and a computer tucked into the corner of the dining room. That's how real people live, and it doesn't have to be styled to perfection if it's warm and happy. The kitchen turned out fantastic. There are a lot of classic elements we see often here, like the tile, white cabinets and open shelves, but it still looks totally personal and unique.

Great tour. Thank you for sharing your lovely home, your family is adorable.

Um, I'm confused by how announcing your pregnancy over text, Facebook or email is superior or more personal that getting a photo card in the mail? That makes NO sense.

Also, what's wrong with people wanting to share HAPPINESS? There is enough negativity in the world, I would welcome an announcement like this from a friend or family member even if I wouldn't send one out. I certainly hope none of these cute families who are excited about a new arrival never see this stupid thread.

In a related note, I wish AT would go ahead and link comments to Facebook. I bet you people would be less likely to belittle strangers if your name and picture was next to your comment.

Really effing gorgeous. I love the choice of the dark wall paint and the non-white-subway tile. This is very inspiring!

I was thinking outdoor curtains too. You could easily add a frame for them to your deck. I have a covered porch and outdoor curtains are the only way I can tolerate how close we are to our neighbors on both sides.

Here's kind of what I was thinking for you... http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_6DQIPZjM_dg/SYHbSIXzbQI/AAAAAAAAC90/Ynoaz66IMv8/s400/outdoor+dining+ethereal.jpg

I adore the kitchen tiles - both the idea and the execution of them. Such a cool, personal touch.

If you're interested that rug, I highly recommend the PB version over the WE version. I compared both and the Owen looks much better in person, and I suspect it will wear better too. The WE version in store looked a mess just hanging up.

It's quite limiting (and arrogant) to think there is only One Way to do things. In your own home why not do whatever the hell you want? Break some rules, do things "backwards," change things up, who cares? Buy the frames first if you feel so inclined. Nothing's permanent anyway.

Instead of empties, you could find some free printables for now. I love the site http://vintageprintable.com/wordpress/

I haven't even looked at the photos yet, but the write up was beautiful. I also loved this quote: "Once you break the seal and make a few runs to the hardware store your world really expands." So true! I have become a DIY addict since we bought our house three years ago. To paraphrase the great Ron Swanson, Why buy something you could make?

Interesting, I was just reading a little experiment done by Real Simple which compared a whole bunch of these (including the penny) and concluded that flower food was the most effective. http://www.realsimple.com/home-organizing/gardening/flowers/keep-cut-flowers-fresh-10000001054327/page3.html

I dug around on her blog a little and she says that she got the tile at Floor & Decor. I think it might be this one... http://www.flooranddecoroutlets.com/gray-penny-mosaic-porcelain-tile-3-4in-x-3-4in.html

I LOVE the floor. I have a high traffic bathroom that is shared by two teenagers plus guests, with white grout that looks filthy all the time. This would be so much better.

My grandparents had a huge big painting by Paul Detlefsen hanging in their kitchen. I guess they were pretty popular in the 60s. I don't know what happened to it when they passed, but last year I found a much smaller version of it on ebay, which now hangs in a place of pride in my own kitchen. It is not the style of my home decor at all, but I love it so much. I also have a wall in my living room filled with old family photos including my parents as babies, in gorgeous vintage frames I have thrifted over the years.

To me a home without mementos is just a house.
