Our son is two this year (almost three) and since his first Christmas we've put a small 4 foot tree in his room with soft plush ornaments on it. We found that we already had quite a few soft ornaments in our collection but you can find them anywhere - Crate & Barrel, World Market, Target... He knows that that is HIS tree and he can touch it and decorate it and play with those ornaments, and that the fancy tree with fragile ornaments in the living room is for looking only. I would say it's a necessity. We didn't like the conventional rocker/glider so we bought an antique metal rocking lawn chair which we had sandblasted and painted a cream color, then I then made a matching cushion. We LOVE this chair. It's lightweight and we can move it all around the room. Now that our guy is 2 we still use the rocker a few times a day for our many many storytimes. Sometimes I sit and enjoy my own book while the little one plays on the floor. When we no longer have a need for a rocker in his room, we will move it to the porch! My birthday is on the 15th and this post just about sums up everything. My parents have always done an awesome job with separating my birthday from Christmas, going as far as "no Christmas tree till after your birthday," but I love a tree so I requested we skip that rule. And my mom would leave out the happy birthday banner till after Christmas - for baby Jesus :) Real Life at Home: Jennifer's Birthday Party Disaster |

I almost put an offer on a house in this neighborhood but, alas, it was taken off the market the day we went for a second viewing. It even had a gravel roof! We ended up buying a brick home in south city St. Louis, which we love and has a full basement (which are rare in Ridgewood). I recently saw an identical but wider hutch at Treasure Aisles For $100 and ever since have been kicking myself for not buying it! You guys have done an amazing job.
