When I first moved to the LA area it was right before the holidays and I was, of course, alone. Even though I don't have a dog, I went to the dog beach in Huntington Beach on Thanksgiving and Christmas and watched the pooches play in the water. There were a lot of people and dogs there and watching the dogs play put me in a very good mood. Celebrating Thanksgiving When You Are Far From Family |

Greene & Greene homes are beautiful. On the opposte end of the spectrum I also like John Lautner designed homes. Chemosphere, anyone? The Googie architecture in Los Angeles is pretty cool too. Pasadena City Hall is a must see along with the Bradbury building. October is Architecture Month in Los Angeles |

Recently in my Southern California neighborhood the state did earthquake seismic tests with powerful 'thumper' trucks. I was at work at the time the tests were done, but I came home to 2 cracked glass picture frames. It made me rethink the glass frames I have for when the Big One hits. I worked for a small jewelry manufacturer and to show definition on the pieces we had people use a black Sharpie marker on the engraving to make it 'pop' more. Color it in and wipe it off. Cheap and it worked. How To Darken This Bronze Tree? Good Questions |

A good place to look for rugs is at Target. I bought a 6x10 foot rug that somebody had returned for $49. It was regulary $300. I have pets so I'm not going to spend a ton of money on something that they'll mess up. Shopping for Vibrant and Bold Rugs |

After living in Texas for 35 years, with lovely central a/c, I've found it near impossible to deal with the lack of a/c in coastal Southern California. After 5 years I haven't gotten used to it. I actually enjoy going to work because I can enjoy the central a/c. 8 Tips For A Cool Night's Sleep (Without the AC!) |

My parents gave away the bedroom furniture and beautiful cedar chest that my grandfather made when he married my grandmother. They also gave away a one of a kind grandfather clock that they had. I Can't Believe My Parents Got Rid Of (Insert Item Here)... |

Did you not mention Roger's Gardens because it's in Orange County and not Los Angeles County? That place is amazing. I did love the house tour though. Very Austin and it made me happy to see it. It was full of personality and it didn't look like a home decor catalog or magazine. Comfort or Looks? |

After living most of my life in the South with central a/c, heat, dishwasher, garbage disposal and washer/dryer I miss them dearly. My vintage 1920's apartment in So Cal is cute, 2 blocks from the ocean with an oceanview and it has its original hardwood floors and tile. Unfortunately it doesn't have any modern conveniences. It's drafty, hot in the summer, cold in the winter, lacks insulation and I can hear my neighbors as if they're in my apartment. I'm ready to move back to a cookie cutter apartment complex just to have modern conveniences and sound-proofing again. Comfort or Looks? |
