You did an excellent job with this room Jennifer, I think the rug is my favorite part of the room. :)

I also admire you for posting photos of your babies room. I would love to do so with my daughters' room. BUT, I am not quite as thick skinned as I need to be. ;)

Thanks for all the feedback everyone!

julieleanne- Thanks!! I appreciate it. The bottom of the pots looks as though it has a barcode, but it actually the ikea logo and other info painted on. :(

AliceG- Thats a great idea! I like having the magnetic board in front of me, because it inspires me to create when I am not really planning to. BUT, when we put our house on the market... I am definitely going to take you up on that. I have at least 6 square pieces of cork, that would work perfectly inside the doors. Thanks for the inspiration!

Thanks for the comments! I am soo embarrased at how messy the before was!! I am going to blame it on being a new mommy for the second time. ;)

Mariss- I did like the advantage of closing the armoire. Who doesnt like to hide they're clutter? :) There was a couple of disadvantages and other things that came into play when deciding what to purchase.

1) I had a really small space (which also doubled as a walkway to our bathroom) to work with. All the desks and computer armoire's I looked at were too deep or too wide to also accommodate the billy bookcase. I knew I wanted to work around that since it is narrow and really makes the walkway more open feeling. No more squeezing between the kitchen table to get to the bathroom! :)

2) We are planning to move by the end of this year. Getting our house ready to go on the market as we speak, so I wanted to get away with something cheaper, so that when we build our house (and I get my own studio) I can justify going out and buying the new desk of my dreams. :)

If anyone is interested or curious about other items that were used here is a direct link to the actual post: http://vol25.typepad.com/vol25/2009/03/my-shiny-new-workspace.html

thanks Apartment Therapy for featuring my space. :)

I agree, driving miles to pick up an item from ikea can be scary! Our closest ikea is in Portland, Or. It is about a 3 and a half hour drive for us. I was planning to make 3 large purchases and checked the internet for availablity before we left. When we got there the Tromso loft bed, and Odda wardrobe both seemed to be out of stock. To make a long story short, they were able to find the items in stock, but we were told we would have to come back, after a new shipment arrived with still no guarantee the items would be in stock. Placing an item on hold is not an option either.

A little tip we learned though: ikea stocks a certain amount of items on the floor. Once that item sells out it shows up as sold out in their inventory. But after closing (when there is no danger of injury to their customers) they use a lift to pull down the items from the top shelves. We were told we could wait until closing, but since we were three hours away, that would have put us getting back home really late. Fortunately, they were able to get the bed down without a lift, which was really great customer service! It was heeeavy!

My husband's family lives in Ok state, and it is about a 23 hour drive for us. The last couple of times we have driven instead of flying. To help pass the time, I bring a few tools with me and actually document my trip on the road. This last trip I bought a Polaroid camera, so I could include the pictures as they are taken.

I personally love maya road's chipboard books.

I blogged my last road trip journal, and included it in a diy format. :) http://vol25.typepad.com/vol25/diy/
