I moved into an apartment on Connecticut Ave. in DC, planning to stay there just six months until I found a quieter place. Seven years later I said good-bye to that fabulous 1940's one bedroom with three walk-in closets where I'd lived from ages 26 to 33. My 13 year old daughter has the third ikea loft bed pictured. A friend cut about 16 inches off each leg to lower it so she can sit up comfortably (in a room with a ceiling fan) and still have room below for seating and pillows. Because the lower horizontal braces are intact, it's still very sturdy. This would work well if you want mall children to be a little closer to the ground for safety.

I vote white for the rails. Also, replace the mirror with a much larger piece of brighter art. Mirrors only work where they are reflecting something interesting.

Whoa! You have a fabulous view out the window and can't enjoy it from the couch. I would completely turn the seating around so you could enjoy the view as a focal point. Put the tv at an angle in the corner where the mirror is. With the wall at the side/back of the seating, and without the t.v. there, you could have a display of several photographs, posters, or other art--using the wall as your gallery.

I went to the Robie House a few years ago. I was delighted to finally visit in person, but quickly realized I would hate to live there. The low ceilings felt claustrophobic. Also there was little privacy because, according to the guide, Wright did not believe in shades or curtains. T
