The thing that really makes me glad I live in Canada and survive the crazy winters here - no scorpions! *shudder*

We've had mice and one fishing spider about as big as my hand over the past two decades. Not too shabby.

I lived without air conditioning for years. It's only since a recent bout with Lupus, worsened by Montreal's horrible humidity, that made me cave and get a window unit. I only use it at night, and only on low - I can't stand living in a fridge.

I painted my bedroom with Behr's 'Lagoon' partly because of the name. Usually I'll have it narrowed down to four or so close colours, and the name helps me hammer in the nail.

We painted the office 'Mountain Haze' because of the name, too.

Ginger, my Sheltie who passed away in April, would turn up in the strangest places during thunderstorms. Once she wedged herself between the toilet and the wall. Another time we spent an hour calling her and looking for her, only to find her in the couch - she'd dug her way under the cushions and throw pillows and was pretty much inside it. She's turned up in the shower a few times.

If Cat can't be found, he's in one of two places - the linen cupboard on the towels, or in the 'crawlspace' off of my closet, at which point he's pretty much in Narnia.

My new dog, Jackson, terrified me one night, as I found myself at eye level with him. He was standing on top of our chest freezer. I still have no idea how he got up there, as he is not a large dog.

Nope. My bedroom has dark turquoise walls with white furniture, black and white patterned bedding, and a few red accents. My bathroom is mint green with chocolate brown accessories, and a bright orange throw rug.

Cable TV, definitely. Most television I want to watch, I can catch online. Following that? Scale back the cell phone extras. I don't currently have a landline, anyway. I'd get rid of the internet if I had to (I can access from school and work, so checking email, etc, wouldn't be a problem).

I hate air conditioning, though others in my household love it. It gives me a migrane if I have to sleep in a room with an air conditioner, though I'm all right during the day.

I am an open window person. Though on the hottest days of summer, I install a window fan, I'm not someone who is too bothered by heat.

My bedroom is painted a nice dark turquoise. It's the darkest colour I've ever painted, and I love it to death. During the day with the window light it looks classy, at night when it's soft lamps lighting it beckons for sleep. Turquoise walls, soft white furniture, and black & white bedding and curtains. A few rugs with black/red/white stripes, and two red throw pillows, boom! :) Drama.

I'm in love with Lush 'Porridge' soap, especially during the winter months when I REALLY need to oatmeal for my itchy, dry skin.

Plus it smells like cookies.

My favourite bathroom thing is the locking medicine cabinet I bought at Ikea. Usually I leave it unlocked - but if my nosy grandma, who likes to rifle through my prescriptions, is coming over? I lock it and take the key out.

I keep toilet bowl cleaner, windex, and some Lysol wipes in the bathroom for quick clean-up/de-germification.

Actually, using a squat toilet actually helps prevent intestinal/rectal troubles - that includes hemorrhoids. Keeps your legs strong, too. It's even right on Wikipedia.

Benefits are pretty laid out. There are a few cons, naturally, but honestly? Not a bad design! Just because it's different, doesn't mean it's bad. Just gotta get the hang of using them!

My mom's insisted on having the rug in front of the sink for as long as I can remember, but it's honestly a huge annoyance. The garbage can slides out from under the sink, and things often wind up spilling on the rug when they're being emptied. It's on a rubber rug mat, which it constantly slides off of.

I wouldn't have one in my kitchen. Too dirty. I don't like bathroom rugs either, with the exception of a bathmat for stepping out of the shower or tub - but one that can be easily thrown in the wash with the towels.

I've never had a problem sharing a bathroom, but then, I come from a pretty huge family. I can remember spending summers at the cottage and having ten people sharing one tiny bathroom for weeks.

My tips: Pick up after yourself. If everyone does it, it's so much easier to share. Mop up shower puddles, rinse your toothpaste (and beard hair!) out of the sink, your skidmarks out of the toilet, your hair clogging the drain, and whatever else you can think of.

If you have one messy person in a household of people pitching in - call them out on it. And don't be afraid to embarrass them! "Dude, could you PLEASE rinse your freakin' pubes out of the tub next time? Jeez."

My brother's bedroom was lime green (back when he still lived with my parents, when he was about sixteen - it's since been painted and turned into the office), and I have to say, it was pretty badass.

This is the best shot that remains of it, and it's kinda messy (he was a sixteen year old boy, big surprise), but I'll share:

I don't know if I'd ever use lime in a bedroom (too insane), but living room or kitchen? Waaaay cool.

When my grandfather passed away, I inherited their bedroom furniture, which my grandmother found in a thrift store sometime in the 70's and painted Pepto Bismol pink... over uggo olive green.

I lived a year with the pink furniture, then painted it cream colour. I think my grandmother would definitely have approved with me making furniture that was so very her my own.

I have a row of those in my studio beside my desk for various art supplies, and also a row in the bathroom that hold my toothbrushes, makeup brushes, eyeliner, mascara, and hairbrush.

I love them.
