Birthday crowns are a wonderful family tradition. My (much) littler brother and sister make them for each other on their birthdays, and distribute them to the rest of the family as well--every year, I get my own in the mail, thousands of miles away. Very touching.

5 points for the empty Jack Daniels bottles. That's my kind of decor! ;)

The self-righteous, dogmatic denunciation of smoking that is coming to dominate in the U.S. is extraordinarily tiresome. Perhaps we would all live longer if we served only broccoli florets and Perrier at our parties, but I doubt we would be happier.

I don't smoke inside, but I consider cigarettes to be part of a well-stocked bar. I like the silver tray idea--I'll have to start doing this!

Milk, butter, eggs, cheese, tortillas, bread, wine, onions, garlic, and whatever fruit & veg are in season and strike my fancy. In summertime, tomatoes and cucumbers are standard--as long as I have refrigerator pickles on hand and ripe tomatoes to slice, I'm ready for unexpected visitors. Of course, pasta, rice, beans, potatoes, tinned tomatoes, coffee, tea, and all standard baking ingredients need to be on hand. I usually buy a chicken, a small roast, or a few pounds of sausage, too.

My bathroom is almost the same shade of green! I love it--very vibrant.

I'm with LaYa--doesn't it seem a bit peculiar to tout the advantages of cheap&green while suggesting that we go out and buy something new and expensive? The truly "rustic" isn't really for sale.

Tacky indeed! It undermines the notion that gift-giving consists in something other than passing around sums of cash. Plus, american dollars aren't even attractive, as currency goes.

I feel uncomfortable when I spend time in any notably messy rooms--and in a small 1-bedroom, that doesn't leave me much room for clutter. I occasionally stash junk in the bedroom if a visitor arrives unexpectedly, but in general, most rooms are fairly tidy. The closets, on the other hand--watch out!

Mine are blade-up. I've never had any problems with slippage, and the strip is high enough that the handles need to be in easy reach.

Limonata, I agree--no way color is the most salient feature of my book collection! I'm fascinated by personal curatorship, and am always curious to see how people choose to organize their books. Arranging by color has some visual appeal, I admit, but it's definitely not for me.
