when my boyfriend and i moved away together (500 miles from home). we started with some mix and match pieces collected from various relatives. he had an old ratty pull out couch that was just nasty. he insisted on keeping so... so we kept it... i complained about it everyday. until i bought a couch cover to cover the ugliness of it.

he also got a dining set from his father. although he wouldn't let me paint to, i re-did the cushion covers and they look 100 times better.

it was hard living with all his stuff that he inherited. he's not one to throw things out. i had to work around all these mix-matched pieces and i was not a happy camper.

he also had an army green metal file cabinet, although it served it's purpose. it was just uggggly. i placed it under the dining table so no one would see it.

it was hard to work with someone who was unwilling to give. and it was hard bc we were both in school (he was doing his undergrad and i was in graduate school) so money was tight. the sad part of it is that i moved out 2 years later. (we're still together though).

in the future, if we ever move in together again, it'll be our own home and i will not put up with ugly second... third hand furniture (especially if i'm not allowed to alter it)

spread them out throughout the loft. if you have open cabinets in the kitchen, create a little scenerio with some of the figures there. then have a couple on the counter, in the corner. and that really big yoda, have him by your entry way.

i think grouping them around your loft will make it seem less, well, intrusive than displaying them alllll in one area.

online shopping is amazing. online stores carry a lot more products and sizes than the physical stores. i tend to order only from those stores with low or shipping and have great return policies.

i just ordered something from nordstrom's online store. they don't carry that particular dress in my area but if it doesn't work out i can return it at any nordstrom location minus the $5 shipping fee of course.

it's easier to clean. and it can add color to your cabinets without painting. (that's my rationale)

I have the Miracle Blades http://www.miracleblade.com/

I was using them while in college and really liked them (they've been in storage for a couple of years now because I've been moving around a lot). But come this July, these bad boys are seeing daylight again.

Where can I find nice vibrant colored self-adhesive shelf liners (or contact paper)? They have these everywhere but I've only found them in those really boring colors. I want to add some color and make my drawers pop a little without have to paint.

Thanks.

Just like what the others said, B gives your kitchen more life. Perhaps it will tie your walls and table legs together as well.

i was instantly attracted to B.

i agree. it's too monochromatic. add a splash of color to your room with your curtains. if you're on a tight budget, go to ikea or even a fabric store and make something yourself. i would avoid prints and stick with solids here.

since you can't paint your room, you can think about hanging up a big canvas or something to liven it up.

my boyfriend and i will be moving in together this summer. we're moving into a fresh, new, empty condo together. so we're starting from scratch. however, i'm already sensing some problems. since we're both students (he's doing his bachelor's and i'm in law school) our budget is pretty tight. however, he doesn't care about the way furniture looks so he's been accepting all these handme downs (that don't go together in any fashion or sense). i'm frustrated over his design ideas, or lack of. i throw in my two-bits but he just complains that things are too expensive. i'm will be doing some serious flea market, estate sale, warehouse sale shopping this summer to offset his fashion sense.

if you've decided on round tables... it's not too bad if you sat 11 to a table instead of 10. this happens often in chinese banquets. we always invite way too many people and of course there are those that show up with one too many guests. but it all works out.

congrats and have fun!
