You need to start over. If you replace just one thing, it will instantly be mismatched and make everything else look even dingier. The shower tile looks fine, so yes, I would reglaze the tub. I have a reglazed tub and three years later it still looks brand new. I would also replace the drain, as I'm sure it is rusted, and the spout and dial. Get rid of the horrible linoleum and install a nice neutral ceramic tile floor. New toilet (they are inexpensive and you can learn how to install it yourself), new vanity (make sure you replace the vanity before you replace the floor). If this is your main bath, do not put in a pedestal...you need the storage. A lot of the bath can be DIY except for the tub reglazing! I used to do the laundry, cooking, cleaning, taking the trash out, AND all the technical things like home repairs AND I took his car in for repairs...he didn't do anything except watch the game and yell 'What's for dinner?" I unloaded my 200 lb infant (Bitter, party of one!) and now my time spent doing housework has plummeted and it has become much more pleasant...AND my house is much cleaner and stays that way longer. 'Aromatic' smell of curry? I used to work at an apartment complex with a large Indian population, and the hallways would REEK. We lost an innumerable amount of renters, and had to avoid showing certain buildings altogether, because they wouldn't even look at the unit after getting a whiff of the hallways. Once that smell is in the unit, it is impossible to remove. We would replace the carpet, paint the walls, and clean with bleach, and the smell didn't even lighten up. It got to the point that we had to forbid 'offensive cooking smells' solely due to people using curry because it would seep into other units and disturb other residents. That stuff is noxious, even if it is delicious. Apartment Therapy Los Angeles | Good Questions: Ridding Curry Odor From Couch? Los Angeles |

Your neighbors have a right to peace and quiet, and it sounds like you have disregarded that on numerous occasions already. I used to have to be up at 7am on Saturday mornings for work, so I certainly didn't appreciate my college-age neighbors blasting Justin Timberlake and screaming and laughing loudly on their deck at 11pm. I did call the cops, because I have a right to be able to sleep and they can take their party inside. Since it does not sound like this is a 'once a year event' I would take the party elsewhere and leave your neighbors be. It took my landlord two weeks just to replace some lightbulbs. I have cockroaches and they told me I have to wait a full week for the exterminator. I complained about the noise from the boiler room for weeks before they even tried to fix it (and failed). It takes forever to get even the simplest thing done. And then they have the nerve to tell me I am underpaying for the unit! I didnt know cockroaches had a dollar value... A door in the middle of a stairwell? So you have to walk up the stairs, step back down a few stairs so you can open the door all the way, then go back up the stairs....that is just dumb to put a door there... Apartment Therapy Los Angeles | Look! Halfway Painted Stairs |

The fact is that only a small percentage of homes are actually in foreclosure, and these are people who bought way too much home in the first place. They couldn't afford it when they bought it, and their ARM adjusted, and now they are boo-hooing that there is a crisis. There is no housing crisis for the intelligent people who bought within their means, saved a proper downpayment, and made sure their credit was good enough for a fixed rate instead of an ARM. You talk like everyone is experiencing this, like we're in the midst of the Great Depression. Stop contributing to the panic. The reporting in the meida overall has become so SO irresponsible! And those pictures are horrible. Apartment Therapy Los Angeles | LA Times Home Garden Roundup 11.15.08 Los Angeles |

Somehow I don't see the Obamas having a penchant for over the top afro-centric decorating...that would be extremely polarizing and that is not what he is about. It's not Jesse Jackson in the White House. I have seen their home in Hyde Park and I think they will appreciate the traditional style that is currently there. This contest has dragged on waaay too long, it's very cumbersome, and the judges didn't choose very well. I voted once, and that is it. It's actually turned me off of AT and I am visiting less and less frequently. Apparently, they didn't take any reader suggestions from last years contest seriously enough to fix these probelms. yeah, I doubt your landlord is going to cover the costs to refinish a tub that you willingly took a razor blade too....it's like having a small burn spot on your kitchen counter so you pick it out and create a two foot hole, then say "Ok, landlord...pay for it!" Looks like you've lost your security deposit and will probably be charged for damages. What possessed you to start peeling? In order to refinish a tub, the original layer gets sanded down, so what you are looking at is not it's original condition anyway. I would just admit to my landlord to what I did and see if we can find a solution together...you are going to pay for it any way you look at, so you may as well get it fixed in a way that will make you happy while you live there. Also, do some research and make sure you won't ruin the whole tub by using it now that the top layer is gone.
