If you're going to sew this at home, I suggest making the seat and back covers as loops--long rectangles, cut slightly small, sewn together on one end, and then stretched over the frame. I've seen this done, and it looks quite nice and solves the problem of sewing on the frame. Canvas stretches easily, and by cutting it slightly small, you'll get a nice, tight fit. Or, you could insert grommets on the ends of your canvas rectangles and lace together, like a corset. Apartment Therapy New York | Replacing Canvas on Tubular Metal Chairs? Good Questions |

Well, aren't there a bunch of nasty little fussy pants on this site today! You all just HAD to share how annoyed you were that your precious time was taken up by this person's simple question. The nerve! I think what this person is asking is NOT "Design my apartment" but "HELP! Where do I start?" I think Jacqui is looking for ideas not dictates, so she (?) can get her own juices flowing. Best idea I've heard here is: put your bed on casters and move it around. I would expand that to include all your big furniture, and then you can play! Also, as another poster commented, what do you want to use the space for? is it retreat/refuge from your work day? are you going to entertain? Anyway, good luck! I could see how someone would say "cluttered"-- but tacky? because it's not a beige box? To each their own. Apartment Therapy San Francisco | Etsy Finds: Curios Cabinet Collectibles |

All of Jean Pierre Melville's films have a great "look"-- check out the nightclubs in particular. Also, Rene Clement's take on The Talented Mr. Ripley: Purple Noon, also starring the impossibly beautiful Mr. Delon. Apartment Therapy New York | ColorTherapy in Film: Le Samouraï |

Very David Hicks! love it. I also love the idea of putting these focal walls behind the beds-- it adds interest and texture to the rooms, but it's less distracting (if you're easily distracted). Apartment Therapy New York | ColorTherapy: A Screen Lattice#comments |

Once again, great job! esp. for showing how ingenuity and taste (the lighting, the paint, selective scrounging) trump a big budget. Apartment Therapy New York | Small Cool 2009: gregnewyorkcity's Lighting Teeny-tiny Division #19 |

Love it-- If it were mine, I'd probably paint the other walls one of these colors and retain the white for trim. Apartment Therapy New York | ColorTherapy: Zig Zag Volume 2 |

Love it-- so individual and stylish! such a relief from the safe beige or white interiors (vaunted for being "uncluttered" but they just look unthoughtful to me). This is such a sophisticated New York look. Apartment Therapy New York | Small Cool 2009: Delilah's Color & Pattern Teeny-tiny Division #14#comments#comments |

Lovely. Just lovely. Doesn't look at all like my house, but that's cool. I love how it's a "total" look-- not out of staginess, but out of a consistent vision. I love all the little touches. Apartment Therapy DC | House Tour: Nicole & Colin's Streamlined Salvage Maryland |

I would make a list of everything you DO in your apartment, and the areas that you use for them (or potentially could). Do you eat a formal dinner every night, or are you more likely to eat in front of the tv? What kind of entertaining do you do? I've always liked the "jewel-box" idea-- something that would be too too expensive on a large scale can be affordable (and beautiful) on the small. Go for the best! Apartment Therapy Los Angeles | 7 Mistakes Sometimes Made In Small SpacesAnd How To Avoid Them |

What do people think clutter means? I think of clutter when I see random bits of crap, including trash, clothes on the floor, etc. I don't think books, postcards arranged neatly, etc. Yes, they have a lot of stuff, but it's ARRANGED. It has pattern and order, presumably a pleasing one to the owners. Yes, I would probably paint the bookshelves white if they were mine, but hey, their choice. I believe those aren't termite tunnels. They may be from nailing leather into the lasts. When you make shoes, tacks and nails are used to hold the leather in place as the leather is stretched on dried over form. The damage to the heel is quite common (prying nails etc off the last).
