Well, aren't there a bunch of nasty little fussy pants on this site today! You all just HAD to share how annoyed you were that your precious time was taken up by this person's simple question. The nerve! I think what this person is asking is NOT "Design my apartment" but "HELP! Where do I start?" I think Jacqui is looking for ideas not dictates, so she (?) can get her own juices flowing. Best idea I've heard here is: put your bed on casters and move it around. I would expand that to include all your big furniture, and then you can play! Also, as another poster commented, what do you want to use the space for? is it retreat/refuge from your work day? are you going to entertain? Anyway, good luck!

Once again, great job! esp. for showing how ingenuity and taste (the lighting, the paint, selective scrounging) trump a big budget.

Love it-- If it were mine, I'd probably paint the other walls one of these colors and retain the white for trim.

Lovely. Just lovely. Doesn't look at all like my house, but that's cool. I love how it's a "total" look-- not out of staginess, but out of a consistent vision. I love all the little touches.

I would make a list of everything you DO in your apartment, and the areas that you use for them (or potentially could). Do you eat a formal dinner every night, or are you more likely to eat in front of the tv? What kind of entertaining do you do?

Personally, I like a dining/livingroom space. If you can get a table with leaves to expand with more guests or maybe a round table, that might work. The other space could stay a nifty den/office.

I also like the idea of French doors-- they open things up without the cost and committment of tearing down walls until you're ready.

And you can always move it back! Have fun!

What do people think clutter means? I think of clutter when I see random bits of crap, including trash, clothes on the floor, etc. I don't think books, postcards arranged neatly, etc. Yes, they have a lot of stuff, but it's ARRANGED. It has pattern and order, presumably a pleasing one to the owners. Yes, I would probably paint the bookshelves white if they were mine, but hey, their choice.

Books never equal clutter in my "book" but then again, I'm a book person. Some people like things bare and blank.
