I just watched a Sarah 101 episode last night where this color palette was used. Excellent! Is that stand alone cabinet from ikea as well?

recycleg hope you are surviving the "winter". It's a great time to go on vacation to warmer areas of the country that have these heat issues. I lived in SF for 15 years and now in LA. The warmth is nice, and I need to catch up on all of these tips for cooling that I didn't need in in the past;)

Ohhh... it's such a cute house.

We had the same problem with our house (didn't like the colors, siding, etc..). Instead of investing in a totally redo, we repainted the trim, door, built shutters and did some minor replanting. It looks 500 times better (at least I think so), and it didn't cost too much.
Certainly down the line we may redo the whole front, but minor changes make a huge difference for us. So I would hold of on the major changes (porch, etc..) and focus on the small changes. They will make a huge difference, fit in with your budget, and you can see what you like.

On colors... I think a yellow door to play off of the foilage near your front door, and maybe some window boxes (looks like someone else thought the same).

These look like pulls used on cabinetry on a boat. I would check stores like "West Marine" or other boating supply stores and look for ring pulls. good luck!

I agree that #3 is wonderful. Anyone know where to source a similiar screen. Also-- what is a good source for grasscloth?

One of these baskets/hampers looks fantastic, but with more laundry (more people) lining up three or four (whites, darks, to be ironed, to be dry cleaned...ughh..) gets a little messy. Any thoughts on integrating the functionality of hampers into furniture? Also placing these sleek hampers a closet would be ideal, but we have limited space there as well.

out a bit on a limb here... but if you don't plan to paint the walls, I think a subdued turquoise may look great with the light yellow

but any way you go on color, you've got a great blank canvas to work from...

stumasa! (someone else also mentioned it above) in cole valley. Great little store with all sorts of options for bookshelves. And if I recall correctly, some at 24" tall, and very inexpensive, especially if you want to finish it yourself. Good luck!

AT... always so timely. I just watched Golden Compass. The movie was a little zzz...but I was enamored by the nouveau decor, especially the bed. Anyone have any good sources (besides of course ebay and craiglist where I'm always on the hunt.)?

Perhaps I can inspire another double take from Kylie!? (I echo the same sentiments above-- great blog!)
