we have a cotton candy machine at work...for any one out there that does this or wonders why its so hard to get the threads to stick to the stick....dip the end of the stick or cone in a sugar/water solution. that is what makes it stick!

i second the de Buyer! i just bought one the other day and its amazing!

http://www.williams-sonoma.com/products/de-buyer-mandoline/?pkey=e%7Cde%2Bbuyer%2Bmandoline%7C4%7Cbest%7C0%7C1%7C24%7C%7C1&cm_src=PRODUCTSEARCH||NoFacet-_-NoFacet-_-NoMerchRules-_-

watch the video and you can see how amazing it is. i had a cheap model a few years ago and i threw it away because i was so afraid of it. i cut my self countless times. this de Buyer has a guard that you put the food in and slide back and forth. AND the feet have rubber on them so its not sliding all over the place!

as some one who has wasted money on a cheap one i would recommend you spend a little more on one that will last a life time!

i use my own bags too. but our produce dept had those machines where you put in the produce code and it prints out a label. so i weigh what needs to be weighed out of the bag and then print out the ticket (which has a sticky back), and stick the corner to the handle of the basket until i print another one and just stick them back to back! i know the checkers in my area would look just as glazed over as yours did!

WOW! thanks for all the input! I'm amazed at the wide range of opinions out there!

I have to add, after submitting this question a few weeks ago, I went on a cleaning spree in my kitchen and I decided to clean and oil all the cabinet doors, front and back, and drawer fronts since they were looking so grimy. It took me TWO DAYS!!!! one day of about 4-5 hours, then i had to stop because my fingers hurt so bad (from getting in the grooves on the fronts). Then the next day another 3 hours! I know they needed it but, I think that experience put me in the pro hardware camp!

@1790 thank you for the advice. I did not know that! Do you have any other suggestions for me to keep the towels handy? I bake and cook A LOT and I am VERY messy so my towels are always needed!

I appreciate all the advice and suggestions/links!

-Kristine!
