I love the trick of getting the eyes out! I would recommend a bread knife over a chefs knife. It tends to make cleaner cuts.

@EngineerChic
I say go for changing the fireplace. I just recently painted my living room and while the new color is great, painting my ugly mauve fireplace and mantle made a world of difference in the room. The bright white fireplace is now a focal point rather than something I wish would just go away.

How sweet are the lemon bars?

I love lemon but am not typically a fan of lemon bars due to their extreme sweetness. I have been experimenting with making a tart & lemon-y lemon bar but have had little success.

Thanks!

@Bee for Brian
I have hardwood floors and have tried multiple sets of Flor stickers, using double the amount recommended, command strips, etc.

I am going to have to disagree with everyone. I would absolutely NOT get FLOR tiles for a high traffic area! I have FLOR tiles for my living room rug and they will not stay down at all; I have tried everything from extra FLOR stickers to Command strips. It becomes a dangerous situation when the tiles move while you or guests are walking on them.

Just my two cents but I would advise against using FLOR tiles if you will be walking on them often.

I would love to learn how to brew bright, spicy, and lightly sweet ginger beer! This is hard to find in my area so I think the best solution would be to make my own. I like that Emma's book is small batches - 5 gallon batches is intimidating.

I also live alone and instead of having the TV on I always have an audiobook playing. Typically, unless I am going to be sitting in one place for a while, I listen to something I have heard before .

I don't think any recipe is "destroyed" but what measurements they use. Sure it might be inconvenient for you to convert a recipe but I do it all the time. If it is something you are interested in making then, at most, it takes five minutes to convert the recipe.

Sure it would be great if the French recipes I like to make were written in English and used imperial measurements but they don't so I spend 5-10 minutes converting the recipe. Not a big deal!

@Pi - I have taken the chairs outside for parties but I don't keep them outside long term. I think they would probably be okay, they are powder coated and mine don't have any chips in the coating.

I just bought the Overstock Tabouret Tangerine stools a few months ago and I love them! They are very sturdy stools and the paint is vibrant and matches the pictures quite well.

Another idea might be to check your local furniture store for clearance or floor models. I was able to get my leather chair as a floor model which was also being discontinued and saved over $3000. There was no way I would have been able to afford the orginal price! It takes some time and a good bit of luck but is worth a try.

@Kristina Franziska I would use lemon zest in the Panna Cotta to add lemon flavor and avoid curdling and then maybe use a lightly sweetened lemon juice reduction for a sauce.

I typically mix lemonade (preferably homemade!), Gin, and Campari for a great drink. The lemonade cuts some of the bitterness of the Campari while the Gin adds a little extra kick!
