This is going to make it so much easier to buy seafood. I rarely cook it myself these days, since it's hard to be sure you're getting something sustainable.

Lunch the next day, with Parmesan, red pepper flakes, S&P, and possibly bacon (I cook a couple extra strips when I do a big breakfast so that I have it handy later). Sun-dried tomatoes in olive oil are also a good topping.

Growing up, I could always tell when my sister had done something bad, as that was the only time she baked. Probably had more to do with being grounded and banned from the TV and internet than apologizing, though.

According to my father-in-law, the secret to a delicious (and strong) punch is peach schnapps. Having tasted the results, I have to agree.

Ah, nothing like being raised by a fire marshal. Gives one a paranoia about candles.

Having been recently pregnant, I can say that almond extract in sweet and sour mix makes a lovely mock amaretto sour.

Hilariously, my husband probably would have waited even if he only got one marshmallow later. He always wound up eating his favorite Easter candy (Creme Eggs) the following year, when he got the new batch of Creme Eggs.

Even for older children & teenagers, "good job" was something they warned us against saying in my teaching program. When they get older, it just sounds hollow, especially for the current batch of children, where self esteem was the major concern and the supposed remedy was constant praise.

Actually, my husband specifically remembers learning sarcasm in third grade due to the environment of constant praise. The teacher would reward the kids if they praised each other, so they soon figured out that saying "good job" after someone whiffed at kickball was both an effective put-down and a way to get rewarded.

Perfect timing! I just received a nearly identical glider from my step-mom and was wondering what I could do with it. I feel so inspired. Now, if I can only follow through...

Almost time for pepper jelly! Yes, I know it seems kitschy, but there really is nothing quite so nice as pepper jelly on toast.

My first one is not here yet, but I was relieved to find out from my mom that my sister and I did go through I picky phase. We've always had such broad palates that I was afraid we were some sort of fluke, but apparently sticking to one's guns and insisting on a bite of everything and no special meals got us through that phase fairly quickly. I think I would have been shocked at the idea of eating something other that what my family was having for dinner.

My mom's spaghetti container had a pasta measurer built into the lid. I'm not sure how much we actually used it, though.

Solution: don't get a wire mesh strainer. Mine is a sheet of metal with a bunch of little holes in it and is much easier to keep clean. :)

I would be somewhat horrified if this was someone's actual house, but as a vacation house it is kind of cool. I wouldn't want to go there, but it is certainly very well done for what it is.

I tried this and wound up with lovely terracotta colored eggs. I made a giant batch of caramelized onions (for the freezer) at the same time, avoiding the naked onion problem.
