What an amazing house! There is some original detail in every picture. The living wall in pictures 3 and 4 is fantastic. The stripes and checks work so well with the organic shapes, and the colors are perfect! Wish I could see more of the kitchen. More exclamation marks!

Thank you! Yes, I can see it now. That's lovely. I've probably been traumatized into associating "Mediterranean mosaic" with "faux Tuscan still life backsplash"!

This is wonderful, beautiful courtyard!

What are pulley and the coil of rope on the bar for?

This is gorgeous and based on what I see I should trust you in all things, and yet I cannot wrap my head around a "Mediterranean themed kitchen wall mosaic" in this house.

Proof that you should never say never: never thought I'd love a house that features chickens and roosters as decor. There are so many things to love: the front of the house (and gate), the kitchen and bath are fantastic, the wallpaper and the shelving in the kids' room are inspired.

On a side note, these are the most developed adorable one-year-olds I have ever seen! Great figure-skating pose in the last photo, too!

Whenever I come across anything like this, I think of my parents' boxer. We didn't have a dog growing up, and I always thought boxers were the ugliest thing I had ever seen. Enter my parents' boxer puppy - henceforth I genuinely think boxers are the most beautiful thing I have ever seen.

Psychological warfare aside, there are a few considerations: 1. Taking the tile down is a very, very costly and messy project which I doubt the landlord would ok. Not telling you to keep it because it's the landlord's call. 2. Concerns of painting the tiles have been expressed and documented in all the above comments. 4. The colors are not bad and the decorative border is pretty. 3. The cheapest-at-Home-Depot vanity is my least favorite thing in there.

The whole house is amazing, congratulations!

I don't understand this math at all, when we compare the projected cost for the whole house with the actual for the kitchen. It's not useful.

You did a fantastic job on that budget. The countertop DIY saved so much, and the counters look great.

For what it's worth, I never worked with an electrician who did not know that a GFCI is required in the kitchen and bathroom, or a plumber who would not know about backflow preventers.

Congrats on your house! It goes without saying that the wavy thing above the sink must go. I'm all for painting the heavy grain honey oak cabinets. Unless the light is playing any tricks, yours seem to be maple and in good condition. It's the arch at the top that makes them look very traditional. I would cut them out to mimic the rectangular panels of the lower doors, and put glass in. I would also replace the two little "eyebrow" doors above the microwave with one door hinged to open upwards (assume the door must stay because of the vent). The floor with the big orange square is more difficult to address, especially if you want to place an island or a table. Good luck!

Beautiful house and family. The cypress is fantastic. Nice reminder that there's no substitute for good bones - I love how they furnished the house, but I would love it no matter what they filled it with.

This concept always cracked me up. The main draw of IKEA furniture is clean design at low prices. You don't "create high quality furniture at a sensible price", you add $720 worth of pretty door coverings to your $179 PAX wardrobe made of MDF.

Great handles and nice grain on the drawer fronts. It looks like it only needs a bit of cleaning and oiling. I like it as it is and I think it would look cheap painted. The painted herringbone inspiration dresser is used in a nursery context, and even there I would have preferred the dresser in the original wood finish.

Haggling in Middle East or China is very different than haggling in North America. You haven't lived until you've been accused of single-handedly destroying the livelihood of the seller and his family, should you insist upon a regular price for an overpriced rug, all over a civilized cup of tea. I love it. People used to fall firmly into the camps of "why not" and "I would never", but I find that with increased consumer awareness, decreased buying power and more competition for the buyer's pocket, haggling is more and more accepted.

The key to successful haggling is being able to walk away from anything if you can't get it for the price you are willing to pay.

Thank you very much for getting back to me, Andi. Yes that makes sense, I had to do a thicker edge as well because the countertop I chose only came in 3/4". Can't wait to see yours!

Isn't it great when is starts looking like a kitchen? I've enjoyed following your project, good choices all around. Curious about the counter depth, does adding an inch over standard depth affect in any way the pricing?
