I grew up with my mother doing trial runs for every new dish she'd plan for an upcoming dinner party. There were times when we'd eat the same thing every night the week leading up to a big party, just so she would know she'd gotten the recipe right. I used to make these every year with my mom. They never looked quite as clean and precise as those in the pictures but I always thought they were beautiful. We always used Lifesavers for the candy centers - didn't actually crush them, just broke them up into smaller pieces and placed them in the centers. Worked like a dream! Where the trash collection site is located and how it's maintained. It says a lot about how the building is taken care of overall. Cluster of cans shoved into a small, "just over there" kind of space with bags tossed in the general direction is a really good indicator of bugs/pests and/or inattentive landlords. Love the online bill pay. Not only does it keep all my financial info available at any moment, my bank even has a function where it allows me to classify each payment, sort them out and get each category's total for a given period of time. I iron clothes under two conditions: 1) there is absolutely NO clothing options other than the pants I line dried so are all wrinkly and I have some place to be where I am required to look less schlubby than usual, and 2) I'm going to dinner at the home of a close family friend who is a retired Home Ec teacher.
