For me, it looks really nice, but like a really nice hotel room. It's missing that open, organized chaos feel of a living room. I agree with the "matchy-matchy" comment above. Maybe lighten the walls and then try adding pieces of art, accent pieces, books, etc... not because you think they match and work well with the room itself but JUST because you like them. Move them around and see what works, until it becomes a better blend of the "nice" look it has now, and the vibe of who you are and what you want to feel every day when you come home! Any pieces or accents that you didn't put in the room because you didn't feel they would "go", try out anyway.

This is as far as I got on my headboard/everything else in that first picture that I want to make mine search:

The online magazine that has the original display of this setup (http://issuu.com/covetgarden/docs/issue22?mode=window&backgroundColor=%23222222) links to this website for the headboard, although I didn't get any further than this: http://www.urbanproduct.ca/site/UP.html

"It's best to admit right off the bat that a smaller living room won't seat all your friends at once"

This is so essential... It took me far too long standing in my 9 x 10 foot living room/dining room/office to realize that I had to make the space work for me to live in, not to entertain. If your space really is teeny-tiny, decorate for utility and minimalism, and leave entertaining guests for your next apartment!

Personally, I got a drop-leaf extendable table and it's by far my favorite design decision. We leave it very small for the two of us, but we have the option to put up the other leaf if we do happen to have guests. It allowed us to design the space for us, while keeping dinner parties a possibility!

More reasonable IKEA alternative -- just got this for my very small apartment. We keep it against a wall closed, and open it at mealtimes. The drawers on both sides also allow for great storage. We open one side if it's just the two of us, but it's great to have the option to open it into a full-sized table if we have guests. And it's actually a pretty sturdy, heavy table for being from IKEA!

My apartment right now! My boyfriend and I live in an approx. 800 square foot 1 bedroom in the Chestnut Hill section of Philadelphia. Hardwood floors, HUGE kitchen, and we have the whole third floor (windows on every wall). Apartment is a block away from the main road in Chestnut Hill and 15/20 minutes to Center City. We pay $795/month (400 each)...

But we're about to move to a TINY 1 bedroom in Glover Park, Washington DC for $1550 with no utilities included. So sad...
