First of all it's just stupid to sell this house to a developer - everyone knows that developers have only the mighty dollar in mind when they buy a property. Second, with all the property in the world one could possibly buy, why would you buy a house like this if you just want to tear it down. Just buy somewhere else for crying out loud. ABSOLUTELY preservationists should win - I do not feel sorry for anyone who buys a property and plays dumb about a house's historical value. Just don't buy it then. And NO just because someone owns a property does not mean they should be able to erase the history of an important work. If nothing were preserved then eventually our cities would be full of eyesores and cheap crap based on the whims of greedy developers.

I completely agree with @travislessness - touch screens DO NOT belong in the car. I cannot believe they make car stereos etc. with touch screens now. When you are driving and want to put on some music it is dangerously distracting to have to look down and touch the stupid screen just right to get it to do what you want. I even considered going back to my old flip phone just so I could feel the damned buttons rather than having to look at a touch screen - of course I finally got a hands-free device, but still it's just annoying. We rely on tactile buttons for driving so we can feel around and keep our eyes on the road. I think the need to be current with all the latest technology has gone too far in some instances and touch screens are not appropriate for all uses.

Many things have made me feel like a grown up over the years... being able to contribute financially on a monthly basis to my grandma and mom were the first big things for me. But at 47 years of age now, oddly enough one of the things that made me feel the most grown up was (get ready) A CHEST FREEZER IN THE BASEMENT. I guess the idea of stocking up on frozen goods was what did it for me... who knew?

I think it's unfortunate that carob was ever seen as a substitute for chocolate because it is nothing like chocolate - it is a unique flavor and quite delicious all on it's own. The fact that it looks like chocolate makes people think it should taste like chocolate, so it's easy to dismiss it as a bad substitute for chocolate. My mom made carob brownies and shakes in the 70s and I miss them! Think I'll go rustle up some carob now!

I too am so glad to see this post!!! For some time now I've been unable to stomach even looking through the catalogs and immediately throw them in the recycle bin. I've become increasingly disheartened by RH in general... their former retro appeal has been replaced by a product line so grossly ostentatious - their catalogs are just a symptom of their apparent over-inflated egos. Especially hard to swallow in these economic times.

Oh Sweet Heavens to Betsy... can't anyone have a fun idea anymore without it becoming an environmental debate??? With all the MUCH BIGGER fish to fry (HELLO food industry with all your plastic utensils, foil, and plastic wrap, and hotel industry with all your tiny plastic shampoo bottles, wasted water and detergent surfactants - and on and on and on - not to mention areas of the country that still don't recycle at all) - must we really pick on the busy mother that is simply looking for an easier way to keep her child's lunch cold?
While I definitely value the environmental information being dispensed and I'm all for being more conscious of what we are supporting and ultimately doing to the world we live in, I also think there is a point when these small ideas getting picked apart becomes ridiculous - especially when there is so much waste and blatant LARGE scale environmental abuse happening that makes a much bigger impact. Yes, you will say that every person's choices make a difference and you would be correct - but there are a million products and ways of doing things in every person's life, and I believe that most people do make an effort for the environment where it makes sense for them. But the reality is that very few people are OCD enough to let go of every single convenience that we've all come to rely on, and I'm pretty sure that even the most environmentally aware of us still do things that are environmentally questionable. Do we all make a difference? YES. At times is it a bit much? YES!!!

@SHERRYBINNH when I say the old fixtures are superior I mean they are beautiful and appropriate to the era of the house, I never said they are more well made than new fixtures. I agree with you that they can be a bit of a challenge when old parts go bad, but if you appreciate the style of original old fixtures they are completely worth the effort to restore. Obviously, if you don't like the style there would be no reason for you to hunt down old fixtures and keep them lying around, but I don't think that is where Julian is coming from - he appreciates the beautiful old home he bought and also appreciates the beautiful old period fixtures. I think Julian has great taste and I can completely relate to wanting to keep with fixtures that go with the period of your house - but that is just my humble opinion. ;)

@APK_101 said it best ... SO many reasons to buy organic. And AS IF we are supposed to rely on what the Environmental Protection Agency says are "safe" chemical levels, that's just dumb. Are we really to believe that at some point we will not pay the price for ingesting chemicals and hormones on a daily basis? I also find the comment about "over-paying" silly as well... we pay more to support the farmers who are farming the right way, AND because organic is superior.

I have that same sink in my bathroom (original to the house) and I would never get rid of it, I love it! I never understand why people get new fixtures when the old ones are so far superior in every way. And who cares if anyone thinks you are a hoarder, why in the world would you care about that? Buy things that speak to you whenever you see them available (you don't find great stuff every day!) - as long as you are fine with keeping them around for a while and have a purpose in mind, keep them for as long as you need to. Do not feel rushed to get them installed just because someone else has an opinion about it! Think for yourself and do what YOU think is best - you can always sell them later if you change your mind. Happy to see someone valuing old fixtures as much as you do!

I think the police need to find something better to do - this guy's not hurting a thing and is probably improving the value of these otherwise non-useful buildings. I laughed at the uptight comments that call this "illegal and wrong" - what should be illegal is taking up valuable real estate building unsafe eyesores in the first place - this guy's doing everyone a favor.

My mom made tuna noodle casserole too! I'm going to call her now for the recipe, that sounds soooo good.

Someone said Food Sticks... YES! Count Chocula, Franken Berry and Boo Berry cereals... Rocket Pops, Strawberry Quik, Jello 1-2-3, Fun Dip, Alba 77, and on and on.... Now I'm thinking about all those giant Lip Smackers... not a food I know but might as well be, don't even get me started on those!
