I would probably use an open bookcase (expedit or similar) directly across from the door, and about 4 feet away. Coat hook on the back of the door, small tray for keys/etc on the door side of the bookcase. It would be a tight entry but I would prefer that to placing a divider next to the door and making the narrow side even narrower. I would also consider blocking up some of the shelves if it wasn't enough of a visual barrier to the door.

If you would rather divide the narrow side (or you think a bookcase would be too bulky), I like the idea of the fabric panel, and you could also hang one of those clear shower curtains with pockets for more stash space.

tuttifrutti:
2a: many lofts have rough timbered ceilings
3b and 4: I'd say "plainness" or "lacking in polish" could work pretty well in a description of an open loft space

While looking at these I also ran across a charcoal Dania Belmont couch for $350. I'd actually checked this one out in person before, I was looking for something a bit squashier but it was very comfortable considering the sleek profile, and I was surprised it was still available.

I rarely get a chance to be outside when it's technically daylight this time of year, so I try to take advantage of the artificial holiday lights. Walking around downtown and taking in the decorations helps if it's a nice crisp night.

But sometimes I'll head indoors, to a mall or department store, and after about half an hour of all the noise and light and color, my living room seems more cozy than stifling, and more soothing than dreary.

I like them. I could see them getting old after a bit, but since they're made to be temporary I think it might be worth a try.

I'd love to see one with "Hello, gorgeous" for a mirror. I had a mirror once where someone affixed that phrase from a label-maker, and it was a nice little pick-me-up for cranky mornings.

Great article! And timely - I've been getting swamped with store coupons in the great holiday gear-up this week, and it's hard sometimes to step back and think about what I really want or need.

I find it helps me to think of the relative cost - how many Starbucks orders would equal this sweater, and which would I rather have. Everyone has different must-haves, and it's interesting to see those differences surface in tighter economic times.

I like it with the white, and I think black would be gorgeous, but if you're looking for a pop of color I would go with a glossy red.

I would also bring out the color somewhere else in the bathroom (little lacquer boxes, small vase?) unless you can see a decent portion of the window frame, otherwise it's still a B&W bathroom once you walk through the doorway.

Thanks! I was really getting bummed about the office job after reading the "Joys..." post, but you reminded me that the many hours at my house might make me a bit stir crazy, espcially with the nights in.

I'm still jealous, but it's good to get a balanced view. A two day/three day split of the work week would be ideal, I think.

I think a bedframe like the middle-of-the-room one above would look very couch-y against a wall, especially with the right pillows.

I agree with above comments about covering it with an upholstery fabric when not in use to really change it from bed to couch, but after that I wouldn't worry too much about guests' reactions. Be realistic in how much you really entertain in a small studio - I think in the long run a comfortable place to sleep will be more important than the occasional slightly-wierded-out guest. And keep a few folding chairs on hand.

3-4 of these will be cushions for a windowseat very soon. Great find!

I think these will be perfect for the office - reuseable, a little dash of glamour for those lean-cuisine-in-front-of-monitor days, and I wouldn't be crushed if a piece or so disappeared.

I love that headboard! Has anyone seen anything similar in stores?

I wouldn't do it either. I think RedMaiko has the right idea. White doesn't always brighten a room, and I think in this case the contrast between the white walls and the darker furnishings is not helping. A color would probably be better for brightening the place up.
