Go Newport (sorry, I also live there and it's exciting to see your little city on AT!)!

I love the collections. I'm not sure that I would be able to arrange them in such an authentic yet non-cluttered way. They don't look so arranged; more like they belong with the rest of the home. Also, I love the nautical maps in the bathroom.

I second finances. Talk about it before so it's not an awkward or angry conversation later on.

Eating habits... as silly as it may sound, my boyfriend and I tend to argue over who ate what food. We split the grocery bill because we are often preparing and eating meals together, but he has a habit of eating everything in one sitting. For instance, I'll buy 10 apples, anticipating that I will have a couple for snacks in the car throughout the week, but he will eat them all within 24 hours. Same with ice cream... for some reason the whole contained must be eaten as fast as possible. More than anything, it's just become annoying. Then again, I don't think he would have admitted this to me beforehand (he's hardly aware of it). Cest la vie.

Great article!

I love the idea of a communal holiday party or potluck. The restaurant that I work at in a small city is closed Thanksgiving day, but opens at night for a turkey dinner and drinks. It's great thing because local people who maybe don't have anywhere to go for the holiday can come together and enjoy a meal and some drinks together. It really adds a community-oriented vibe to the place, and people look forward to coming and seeing their neighbors and friends rather than staying holed up inside.

I saw this over the summer as part of an indie film festival. I second beearthur's observation that the film doesn't really make you feel sorry for this family. Overall, I can't say that I felt remorse or was appalled by their behavior, but perhaps was just in shock and awe. Their lives are so different from mine that most of the film was beyond my comprehension. I have to say, the most interesting part was when they attempted to sell their home. I forgot the actual listed price for the unfinished palace, but the whole situation was just so outstanding that I couldn't even fathom that this is real life for some people.

The director did a nice job of keeping the audience entertained throughout the film... jokes were worked into the "script," and the subject matter was interesting in itself, of course. Highly recommend it!

right now, I live in a nice three bedroom apartment in a three family house. great neighborhood in downtown Newport, RI, gorgeous in-ground pool, and plenty of parking (a rarity for some apartments in this city!)$1400 a month, but my share is $450, utilities included.
