If you get small disposeable pie tins, you can make single-serving pot pies -- they freeze well, and require no attention to reheat! A bunch of those and some cut-up veggies & fruit are lovely.

Mine was definitely my first apartment -- tiny though it was, I had my own one-bedroom in Toronto's Parkdale area for $600 inclusive in my 20s (2004-2007). It was too small to share with my husband when we were married, but for 3 1/2 years, I'm positive it was the best deal in Toronto!
