The most successful greenhouse trip I had was on a crappy, cold day with a late snow. I wanted hardy perennials. So I selected from the plants that the staff *weren't* rushing to bring inside as the May snow fell. My hands were pretty chilly when I finished, but all of those shoots are laughing at this year's April snows and frosts so far. How To Choose Plants Wisely at the Nursery |

I've been planning a move "as soon as the renos are done" from my house (kept it after a break-up but it's too big for me) for two years. I'm finally at the point where I'm going to stop making improvements and just put it on the market but the temptation to maximize through improvements is still there. Granny Squares are incredibly easy. It was one of the first crafts I taught myself at the age of 8, from this righteous pattern in my mom's crochet stash. I'd love to see them done in more finer weight yarns, which would yield even more interesting colour breaks. Crochet Cozy for Modern Spaces |

I've been very happy with my Dyson Stowaway. Most of my cleaning is cat-related, but even cleaning up drywall dust from minor projects and vacuuming inside duct work, it's held up well, although the construction dust did require me to clean the filter more frequently. I especially love that I don't have to buy bags. Hated always running out of bags on my old Dirt Devil before. Reader Roundup: The Best Vacuum? |

As far as I know, the US is the only country where dairy cattle are regularly given hormones. There was a lot of pressure to approve the practise in Canada (and several Health Canada scientists are still paying for their refusal to approve without the long-term studies to justify it), but isn't approved and most European countries have pass positive bans (slightly different than just not approving the treatment). 7 Foods to Avoid For The New Year Shine |

When I told people that I was painting my bedroom chartreuse, they all looked horrified and I admit that I had a few second thoughts as I was applying the paint, but it's my favourite room in the house now and I'm so glad I didn't listen the 'neutral everything' crowd. Color Spotlight: Chartreuse |

Curious where the workspace is in the "after". I love the look, but from the photos it appears to completely eliminate the computer workstation. I'm assuming it was there out of necessity? Before & After(s): Mark's Opulent Bachelor Pad |

I have a couple videos, a mat and some free weights for when it's miserable outside and I don't want to even go to the gym. But I rarely use them in the summer - much nicer to be outside. In my next home, I want to install a pole for spins and strength holds. Doesn't take up much floor space at all, but it will be a challenge to design around! I'd *love* for it to be hot enough to need to sleep outside, (although I'd want to fix my fence and get some earplugs first). In 4 years, it's never been hot enough to be able to leave windows open at night. Would You Sleep Outdoors To Escape The Heat? |

My cats win. I don't really fight the shedding. I vacuum the couch when I'm vacuuming anyway, but otherwise I don't worry about fur. When you have pets that regularly vomit, fur seems unimportant pretty damn quickly! Cat Vs. Couch: Who Wins the Shedding Wars in Your House? |

I have a snoopy family across the street who gossip incessantly and have no cues when I clearly try to cut those conversations short and indicate that I don't care about the personal business of other people on the street. At the same time, they ask all sorts of personal questions (especially with regard to what things cost - I caught the father quizzing a handyman I'd hired last year about how much I was paying for some drywall) and complain that I only trim my hedges for tidyness (they think I should trim them to waist height). I've lived in this house for 5 years and have found almost every interaction with this family to be profoundly creepy. Get Off My Lawn: Neighbor Pet Peeves |
