"With all the different Kindle models out there, it's good to get a case that can accommodate as many as possible." Unless you plan to replace your Kindle with a new model every time one comes out, I would think that you really only need to get a case that can accommodate the Kindle you own. That said, if you are a seller, it's a good idea to MAKE a case that can accommodate as many as possible.

I can't use a metal scoop as it will scratch the interior of my ice cream maker. Any suggestions for one that won't?

The point of packaging is to protect the food inside. As other folks have mentioned, I don't want to eat something that might not be clean. I'm not likely to eat the packaging which might have been exposed to germs, toxins, chemicals, etc. Also: "edible polymers"? That's still plastic in my book. I don't need to be exposing myself to any MORE plastic in my life thanks. I'd rather we find ways to REDUCE packaging.

@Rucy: I've heard of storing vanilla beans in alcohol and always thought it would be a good way to store them AND make extract at the same time. Questions though: Do your beans lose flavor? Does the extract become overly flavored? Or at a certain point do they reach stasis and the beans and extract maintain a constant level of flavor? I've also heard that cheap vodka works just as well as expensive vodka for this--does it make a difference? Thanks!

I'm with Tasterspoon on this: I also use a grease pencil on glass jars. I reuse glass jars to store just about everything (in the cupboard, fridge and freezer). Labeling is useful for me because I can date things. It also helps me distinguish similar-looking items: home made Soap Nut liquid and home made cinnamon vodka look surprisingly the same but serve VERY different functions :)

Until recently I always slept on a traditional mattress and boxspring. A few months ago I bought the Webster Bed from Room and Board (which has slats). I bought a Simmons mattress to go on it (I forget which style it is but the mattress store assured me this mattress did not require a boxspring). My boyfriend and I love this bed setup so much we refer to it as "Comfy Bed". We've never slept so well!

I've never understood when a food is described as "scented". That is, why is it "lemon-scented pull apart loaf" as opposed to "lemon-flavored"?

I used to store tubs of spare linens, a clothing drying rack and folding beach chairs (for fire escape sitting) under my bed. I recently bought the Webster bed from Room and Board and couldn't bear to clutter up it's clean lines with a bunch of junk under the bed so now there's nothing. And since there's nothing, I can vacuum under there much more efficiently so there aren't even dust bunnies!

Riiiiight. A remote control left on my porch doesn't look out of place at all. I mean, sure this could be a good hiding place for things you want to hide INSIDE your home but I think that leaving a remote control on your porch just seems kind of odd.

I'm not sure I get this. The wallpaper tiles are magnets so you have to have a metal wall? What is a "pre-treated magnetic wall" (as mentioned in the post)? Is that a wall painted with magnetic paint? While it's cool, I'm not entirely sure this should be called "environmentally conscious". Sure it keeps those wallpaper strips out of the landfill, but is it "environmentally conscious" to create magnets or to paint walls with magnetic paint just to hang wallpaper on them?

For a site called APARTMENT therapy, I find this (and some other) post rather humorous. I don't know many folks living in an apartment with enough room in the bathroom for laundry. I certainly have not seen an apartment bathroom as large as any of the ones pictured above.

I don't have enough counter space but I would use this so often that I would give up the space for it! (Plus it would let me get rid of so many other appliances that it would be worth it.)

These look great but how long would they last? I can't imagine a radish wreath would hold together after a few days.

My mother always made spritz cookies (butter cookies from a cookie press). Just this weekend I made them myself for the first time. This is the epitome of my childhood Christmas!

I'd love it if these tips included some explanation of how they work. Why does putting a bucket of water in the room eliminate the paint smell?

The metal filter for my coffee maker never worked properly--I kept getting grounds in the pots so I made some simple reusable fabric filters out of muslin. They work just as well as paper ones. I rinse them after use and then once a week boil them all and/or soak them in an oxygen bleach to break up the coffee oils that accumulate. No waste!

I used to use unscented dryer sheets because I can't stand the perfume-y smell that lingers afterward. A few years ago I gave them up completely. I found no difference. There is no static in my laundry and my clothes are just as soft. (I use only soapnuts and the occasional oxygen cleaner; I don't use any softener.) If you think you *need* dryer sheets for softness or static control, try going a few weeks without it. You may not have the same results I did but you might find you don't need them at all.

Or you could just get a reusable filter and avoid the issue altogether.

Somehow I think it would take me longer to smooth out a t-shirt flat in order to use this method than it would take me to just folk the shirt as I already do. And, um, it's a t-shirt so it's not like it has to be prefect. As long as it fits in the drawer and isn't overly wrinkled that's good enough for me!

I made chocolate pasta once. The only thing I liked with it was to mix the cooked pasta with raspberry jam and whipped cream. Made a decent dessert but in the end I wound up tossing most of it as unusable.
