Very neat - love the blue/green colors too. Did you make the "happy birthday" banner? I love it!

This is such a nice idea and something that never occurred to me. My kids (8 and 4) sometimes play out in the front and I'm often directing them toward the backyard. I should go out front with them sometimes!

I read that article in the WSJ (on paper!) and scoffed at first. Then I read it again and wound up clipping it for future reference. One more tool in the parental toolbox can't hurt, but every person and every family is so different and there are no easy answers!

Looks great, so much cleaner and brighter. Thank you for keeping the photo exposure similar in the before/after....it gives a much better idea of how just the paint and tile brightened the space. I don't like when people do the dark, underexposed before and the blown out overexposed after.

My kids are 8 and 4. Our kitchen table is a cheapie white laminate that is holding up ok (3 years in) and I hope to get 2-3 more years out of it. Our dining table (where we eat often and use that space for projects/crafting) has a stainless steel top. It definitely gets smudgy looking and has lots of light scratches but is really great otherwise. Bomb proof. It's 12 years old still going strong.

I had wall to wall flor tiles in my basement, and after 2 water issues (one minor, one major), I said never again. Getting those things up and out of the basement when they are soaking wet and HEAVY was such a mess and a pain. I put down a few large area rugs that are indoor/outdoor rugs. Now if there is an issue, we can roll up the rugs, carry outside, hose off and let dry. (we fixed our gutters so knock on wood will not have water in basement again!)

Anyone ever wall mounted one of these using study wall anchors? I can't find a stud in the location I want to hang mine...

I love them all! When we bought our current house it was a yellowish off-white color with bright white trim (shudder). It always looked filthy, and the house stuck out like a big blob against all the trees and shrubs. We had it painted a dark brownish/gray (I kept thinking the color I wanted was "tree trunk") with dark gray trim. Now it blends into the surroundings and doesn't look like a huge white box. How well I remember this one!! I LOVED it when I saw it in '01. Really really wanted one but didn't have kids then and couldn't justify giving up so much space to a "toy" for myself. A friend worked at a store that sold it and said I could have their last one for 40% off and I passed! wah.

I like the sharpie on the arm, or even just a slip of paper in the pocket.
My son's kindergarten teacher had an activity where all the kids had to memorize home and cell numbers and pass a "quiz". I prompt him from time to time (he's 7 now) to see if he still knows them. When I was 5 I got knocked over by a car...I just remember all these people put their coats on the sidewalk and made me lie down...some lady asked my phone number and I told her. Everyone was all impressed I knew it :)

I'm a luddite and my young kids are fully competent in the use of rotary phones, record players, and analog clocks. Yet I have no problem with this. It's a wooden teether - and a cute one at that.
