We love our Artemis fans by Minka Aire:

Gorgeous bent wood styling and works wonderfully--plus it is nearly silent. Not cheap but worth it--we get tons of compliments on ours.

STEER CLEAR of 1 Wall 2 Rooms. I was close to hiring them for a job but balked when I found they refuse to take credit cards, and require full cash payment upon delivery. Their prerogative of course, but I feel more comfortable using a credit card for large purchases such as these ($1500 in this case) and kindly let them know I had decided to work with another vendor that accepted other forms of payment. Jason, the manager, I assume, replied to my email with this polite missive:

" Valery,
Oh please fool someone else."

!!! Seriously--that is not the sign of a rational individual, let alone a smart business person. I had hardly earned such wrath with my behavior--a customer is entitled to change one's mind.

I think I dodged a bullet!

I would stay FAR away from 1 wall 2 rooms--we ended up working with the lovely people at Room Dividers NY--they were calm, friendly, and professional.

We eschewed the exersaucer, byt did buy a Merry Muscles doorway jumper. It has kept my son entertained for up to one hour-- a small miracle! It's removable when not in use and very simply colored, in a solid rust or blue:

I absolutely adore theme parties. In fact my husband and I throw a massive new year's eve party annually (we are on our 7th year) and it is always themed a different decade. We've done Paris in the 30's (I was Josephine Baker) Havana in the 50's, NYC 80's excess...they have always been loads of fun and everyone comes in costume. For those grumps that don't enjoy them--don't show up! Always a buzzkill to have that one guest that hasn't made the effort....

Wow, thanks so much everyone! I just submitted these pictures yesterday and had no idea they had run here. I really appreciate the comments and suggestions. My husband and I just moved into the house last spring and it has been a real labor of love. We would be happy to share more photos of our home, should we be asked. In the meantime, should any of you be Brooklyn locals, the house will be featured on the Prospect Heights House tour on Sunday, October 18th from 1-5 p.m, along with some other wonderful properties. Cheers!

This is so strange to me--I live in a Brooklyn brownstone and people often pay to have the separation wall REMOVED to create one large flowing space and let in light. Not sure the beams really adds to the space at all though the wood she chose is beautful...what was wrong with keeping it open?

When are you going to do a post on the "New Antiquarians" Feature that ran in the House and Home section of today's New York Times? I am dying to see the reaction to that on AT.

Great looking house. Don't understand the vitriol about the story.

Welcome to the Catskills! We live in Brooklyn but have a vacation spot up in Phoenicia and absolutely LOVE it. What a great looking cottage. Congrats! I definitely agree on living in the space for a bit before you do anything drastic. Sometimes a house reveals itself to you slowly. Good Luck!

I have been the noisy neighbor! My husband and I entertain quite a bit at our Brooklyn brownstone and in the summer, we love to relax with friends in our garden. We have definitely been shushed a couple times by one particularly sensitive neighbor--my favorite line: some of us have jobs!"--but for the most part we try and be respectful by bringing the festivities indoors after 8pm during the week and after 10pm on the weekends. City living includes noise though, so I do find it silly that people expect total quiet when they have chosen to live in a dense urban area...
