i didn't like your "wouldn't want to do it every night." kind of insulting to those of us who live alone.

i still go to whole foods but it was reading 'the omnivore's dilemma' not economy that has gotten me to re-think what whole foods is all about. for example the book says that 80-90% of all items labeled 'organic' in the california stores come from two huge distributors in california -- the book also talks about deceptive labeling -- the shopper isn't getting pesticides but the long haul is still there and the huge corporations

i made the chutney today with chopped up grape tomatoes. instead of pickling spice bag i mixed together ground spices i already had -- mustard, allspice, ginger, pepper -- maybe two teaspoons -- threw them into sauce -- worked great

this place has the best selection of containers on the westside (at least) -- terra cotta pots in dozens of shapes and all price ranges. also their glazed pottery -- the kind from china and vietnam -- wow! -- great shape, size and color selection

i prowl all over the westside for plants and containers -- have learned you have to know each nurseries pluses and minuses

rolling greens in culver city is the oddest place and my favorite -- like a good bookstore browse for me -- hard to find -- on a very steep hill -- an odd check-out system -- customers put their items in a corner of the checkout area -- sort of claim a space then go back for more plants -- then stand in cashier queue -- rolling green's strength is its indoor plants -- they are all in perfect condition -- not an errant brown spot -- so you re starting out with the healthiest, lushest plants -- prices for the 4 inch and 6 inch plants are cheaper than at neighborhood nurseries-- a fern that is $12 elsewhere including Whole Foods is $8.50 here

Huh? "In situ" -- Latin -- means "still in the place it was found" -- often an archeology term -- why here?

and then there's the moldy crud in the food disposal. no matter how much i clean those flaps i never can get all the mold out so it keeps growing. since anything i put in to clean it drains right out, that doesn't work. any ideas?
