In Philly, I'd say Clark Park is one of the best neighborhood parks, and Fairmount Park-->Wissahickon Valley is unbeatable for a mini-getaway without leaving the city. And Rittenhouse Square for people-watching. Green Space: An Ode to My Local Park |

I have a staghorn fern that I really enjoy, but I would think twice about spending $100+ on this fairly finicky plant (unless you live in Florida, or unless the people from Terrain are going to come to your house every so often to care for it). Spring Treat: 5 Unique Houseplants |

AMAZING! Places like this make me feel like I can't wait to get older. There's no way to have an incredible space like this other than to let it build up over time. And thanks for reminding us of what 'artist's loft' used to mean! Mary's Singular Live/Work Studio House Tour |

@Forestine- interesting and very clear definition. I wonder, though, if focusing on originality and change leaves out a lot of what most people would agree is art. Didn't ancient Egyptian 'art' carry on for hundreds of years with very little innovation? I'm also thinking of medieval icons, which are usually considered 'art' but mostly weren't created with a mind toward pushing boundaries or changing anything. I learned art history as a story of progress and innovation, but weren't there times and places where continuity or faithful imitation was seen as more important? 5 Ways to Update Thrift Store Art |

Nice concept. Don't people on HGTV remodeling shows ooh and aah about how their new bedroom or bathroom looks "just like a high-end hotel!!"? Never understood why that's a plus. How To Make a Hotel Room Feel More Like Home |

Thanks so much for this! I couldn't live in Philly without regular trips to the Wissahickon Valley (accessible by train from downtown!). And as I get older, I can't imagine planning a vacation without some nature time. Sometimes I fantasize about moving to the woods somewhere, but then I remember that I would need a car. I'm all for renting OR buying, depending on your situation, but I wanted to push back a little bit on the "if something breaks, I just call the landlord and it's great!" statements above. You must have better landlords than I've ever had- mine often dragged their feet for weeks and then applied the quickest, cheapest solution. I was motivated to buy in part by a few 'last straw' experiences with landlords (I have a really disgusting story involving mouse poison if you ever want to hear it!). So sorry you got that reaction from your social circle.
