My grandfather's shophouse in Perak, Malaysia had a circular staircase like that! As a kid, it was always a dizzying experience to climb the stairs..

thanks sciencegeek for the pipette tip rack idea! I've been really trying to find a soap rack that won't get mucky and melt all my expensive bar soaps away. will need to find a way to make the tip rack pretty though :p

i have the Samsung SyncMaster P2370HD (23" inch screen) and it works great! I occassionally hook up my laptop to it to watch movies (no need for a separate DVD player), I watch cable TV on it and even play Wii once in a while :) It really has all the right ports. The larger P2770HD would be better for movies (my bed is across the room so i sometimes don't see the screen so well) but the 2370 was much cheaper.. I guess I can always move the TV a little closer to me if necessary!!

it's a bright happy place but the colours are too clashing for me! i guess with the sloped ceilings, the apartment ends up looking smaller than the 590sqft it is..

i actually liked the wood white combo of your original bathroom, but i'll have to trust you when you say it was all in bad shape :) my bathroom still has mold on the caulking, hoping to get THAT DIY done this weekend! But I won't hope for as dramatic a makeover. Are your lino floor tiles ok with water? i have terrible condensation from my toilet tank which sometimes drips on the floor, but would LOVE to cover my 1950s mosaic tiles (all cracked and grout is a gross grey).

Lovely apartment!!! I wish I could have sofa areas too! (My place is about 220sqft but I have a gigantic bird cage that takes up what could have been the sofa space...). I LOVE your bathroom, absolutely love how all the colours fit in together. I've been trying to accent my room with turquoise and will probably use your room as an inspiration for wall art to bring this into my space.

Question: What do you have dividing your bedroom from the living space? I see it in your floorplan but not in the pictures.

And as for Ikea, my whole room is pretty much Ikea because everything else in Switzerland costs easily twice as much (and is not nearly half as good looking). And as a student, I'm only going to live here for another 2-3 years so why invest in anything better?

I had a similar sofabed as the first picture that came with the rental apartment i took over. Same belt design and had strap on arm rests to boot. But it was terribly uncomfortable to sleep on and i could not believe that the guy who was living there actually slept on it on daily. I sold it off for 70USD and bought a real bed (well, ikea, but so much better!). It wasn't great to sit on either, but mine could have been a lousier quality than the brand shown here.

my entryway is also my kitchen except it's not half as spacious as this photo :p I also have a door separating the room from the kitchen. i hate trudging my winter boots across the kitchen floor to my room (where my shoe rack is, no space in kitchen for a shoe rack), but i've learnt to deal with a kitchen floor that is not squeaky clean. i think it's a pretty functional strategy, and once i'm inside my room, i no longer think about where the door is!

a bit too bold for me. the colors don't really seem to fit in with the rest of the bathroom, or with each other.. must have been hard work though...

i wouldnt mind keeping worms, but having to move them in order to get the castings... it's a bit too icky :p i also would rather keep them out on the balcony but they wouldnt do too well in the cold i presume!

it's not homely enough! i think that blue light makes it cold, and it definitely needs more texture. it's a huge contrast to the warmth on the outside of the building!

wow what a change! it's very inspiring :D i had my rental bathroom featured on AT last month, but am still working on making the changes and improvements bit by bit. wallpaper *might* work on my wall, but my bathroom is SO damp that it will probably peel off in no time. Am wondering if painting stripes will lend the same feel but i'm not sure if it's the look i want to go for. again, great job with yours!

My LCD TV also works as my Macbook monitor (it's a Samsung Syncmaster monitor-TV hybrid!), and I don't need a DVD player since my laptop is always switched on. This works great for my little 1-bedroom apartment :) No longer need a landline since I have my iPhone with Skype to call the parents in Malaysia.

i hate washing my jeans too because i love my denim dark dark dark! but like percent, they also tend to get a bit baggy after a while and i eventually reluctantly put them in the wash... my sister's trick is to buy jeans that are one waist size smaller and next to impossible to button on the first day, but they then look great for weeks after. i have not tried this but will the next time i purchase. and then i'll try this freezer trick or wait for the next winter!

by the way, i don't think germs are killed at freezer temperatures, they just stop multiplying. they will probably happily grow again after thawing! heck, the E.Coli i use in the lab are kept in -80C come to think of it!!

I would order it right away - it would have to be decently priced of course.
