My dad would almost obsessively chase after my sister and me cleaning off what he called the "Mickey Mouse prints" that we would leave all over the walls.

I have had the same experience with the magic eraser, and find that a damp cloth with a touch of grease-cutting dishsoap works perfectly (my dad's recipe, of course). After all, it is the oils on your hands that make the dirt stick.

I don't know about those folks who are all upset about this being posted on Apartment Therapy, but I think there are a lot of us who have sex in our apartments. And if something is out there that purports to be both design and function like this is, then this is a perfectly appropriate place to have that conversation.

Also, for everyone claiming that people needing these chairs "just aren't doing it right," these chairs are great for those with limited mobility because of age or disability. Sometimes a pile of pillows isn't enough.

When I broke up with the man who I thought was the love of my life, one of my dearest friends and his boyfriend showed up with a "Single Woman Kit," which included a body pillow - I haven't slept without one since, even when I haven't been single!

When my grandmother died, one of the only things she put in her will was a request that I (her eldest grandchild) would have her wedding ring. It is the only piece of jewelry I wear, and I wear it every day. When my great-grandmother died, my sister and I took a pair of her earrings and made them into two necklace pendants.

It must be so special to have so many things that your brother made. Not just had, but made with his hands and his creativity.

Happy holidays.

They have a $6 magnetic towel rack (about 8 inches long) at Target that I can highly recommend. It hasn't budged since I bought it, and it looks clean and stylish. I can't find it on their website, but it is near the dishtowels at your local Target.

I hope your 8th grade English teacher would have also understood that as a teacher it was appropriate for her to correct your word choice, while as a commenter on a website, it is not.

That being said, these stairs are stunning. What an inspired use of the light in that space! In a place where solid treads would have taken away from that light, this art glass enhances it - well done.

People are not being "snobs." The comments so far have merely indicated valid reasons for choosing to not patronize a corporation. That is not being a snob - it is being a responsible consumer. Surely the anti-Wal-Mart comments could have been a little less personal, however.

That said, the cheapest, greenest, and most fun way to furnish an apartment at almost any stage of life (and particularly in college) is through Craigslist, the classifieds, family members, and yard sales. Reuse, people. Reuse.

I would get some actual old bricks at a salvage place and stack them in interesting formations on a sideboard or low bookshelf, then light them so they stand out.

If you can hear your neighbor snoring, a simple $20 white noise machine will do wonders.

I am in the process of moving to an apartment with the tallest windows I have ever encountered. I can't wait to sew up some interesting curtains for the space, but my current crap sewing machine greatly reduces my options.

I have friends who smoke. Their numbers are dwindling, which makes me happy because the health of my friends matters to me. When I invite them to my home, I do not think of them as "smokers." I think of them as my friends who smoke. Friends who bring value to my gathering and whom I could not imagine excluding. Of course, if they were inconsiderate people (in smoking or otherwise), they would not be my friends. So that takes care of that.

Because of curly hair that requires sitting with conditioner on for a few minutes and brushing it out in the shower, a 3 - 4 minute shower will never work for me. But I only need running water to rinse for about 2 - 3 minutes total of my 10 minute shower. Most things, including soaping (as long as you have already drenched your body) and shaving do not require running water. There are shower heads that have a little on/off valve that makes this super-easy, as you don't have to fiddle with the temperature every time you turn it on.

The other issue with making the litter level too high in your box is that, with the cat crouching to pee/poop, some of the litter can get in sensitive areas and cause an irritation, or worse, an infection.
