I don't know. I think the place has nice bones but I just felt underwhelmed by the furniture. I saw too much "personal stuff" and not enough of the apartment's features. Meh.

An easier way with string, nail polish remover (acetone) and a lighter, is how I made my soda bottles into mini planters.

I agree about the curtains needing to hit the floor .... but I *think* the person wanted them to look like bed posts rather than curtains. Just a theory.

A big pail of chitlins (chitterlings for those who aren't in the south) broke open and flew all across my great-aunt's porch when I missed a step, tripped, and fell *up* the stairs and into the mess with my arms full of grocery bags.

I left the cleaning up of that mess to my cousins while my dad gave me a "d-con" shower with the garden hose and then I went in for a real shower. I threw the clothes away.

I am the laughingstock of my family.

Exactly, Jason. I was about to comment on that. The owners have said themselves that this home is an old mine that was once a roller rink and a concert venue. They've said that they do NOT recommend living in a natural cave.

Also, I think furniture "sets" are just for show ... in catalogs and on showroom floors as a way to show you what's available. I don't think every item in the series should be taken home and plunked in your living room, bedroom, etc.

It's like those "bed in a bag" sets with matching curtains, throw pillows *and* wall art rendering the whole room in one single pattern.

(shudder)

I personally can not stand the matchy-matchy look of furniture sets. I think it inhibits your imagination and creativity.

Mixed up furniture can be pulled together with the proper elements thrown in.

Just my take.

Hi!

(Not really much to say but commenting so I can come back to this from my profile as AT has no bookmarking feature for favorite posts.)

I use some inherited clear, acrylic folding chairs for bedside tables. Clip on lamps keep the seat free for the putting-on of stuff. I did this out of lack of money rather than style.

"La la la la la la la la la means ... I love yoooooou!"

Classic Delfonics. I'd like this poster because I remember sneaking out of bed to watch my parents, aunts and uncles slow drag with their friends to this (and other classics) when they had their house parties in the late 70's and early 80's.

Hmm, I haven't gotten my final issue yet. But ... did anyone else get the email from Conde Nast last week, the "special offer" for Domino subscribers to get another magazine for only $10.

Um, excuse me? I had JUST renewed my subscription to Domino with the Feb issue and you want me to pay another ten bucks for one of your OTHER magazines? Hell no! GIVE me a new subscription to something else (my choice) or give me the difference in my subscription back.

*grumble*

therapy4me,

Papasan chairs are high end? Who knew!

Seriously ... I get it, though. I am a thrift-chic kinda girl, myself, so the most expensive thing in my house is my $500 sofa from Overstock.com. Everything else is DIY or a thrift store/flea market find.

I can't believe nobody sees the racist connotations of this question/post, and of some of the responses.

Why is it necessary to mention the couple you got it from are Indian? Why does that otherwise matter? What's next?:

"I just bought a set of pillows from a Asian woman (nice people there, those Asians, by the way!) ....."

Screw this!

A now closed French restaurant and Bar in the River Market District of Little Rock, Arkansas was called Velo Rouge. The interior and exterior had red bicycles throughout.

I thought it was pretty cool and I wanted their vintage looking signs after they closed but they'd already done away with them.

NooooooooooooooOOOOOOOoooooooOOOOOOOooo!!!!!!!!

I heard that the website is coming down too. What kind of MONSTERS are they?! I let my subscription run out, then I bought the book of design and got the free sub that comes with that.

They should have taken Teen Vogue or Cookie magazine instead.

Chimay,

That's a Juju hat, native of Cameroon. You may be able to find a company online who imports them.

Good luck.

I agree with sunrise. Totally not my style and WAY too much stuff. It looks like my crochety old aunt's house, the one who has kept stuff for all her 80 years and thinks everything must be displayed. I always have the urge to tidy up.

Sorry, this was a miss.

Amen, bether! Amen!

Those things freak me out. We have one at work and I can not use it because in 2nd grade our teacher was demonstrating how dangerous hers was and proceeded to slice off her thumb below the knuckle!

She saw us horrified, and tried to keep her composure but ultimately her human side kicked in and she started screaming. A kid ran for the nurse and by the time they had the ambulance there, she had squirted blood all over the classroom.

And now, you may all share my fear of large mandolins.

lol
