As an urban apartment dweller, I like the rice concept. The idea of sand in our apt gives me hives just thinking about trying to clean it up. But rice is more manageable. Thanks for all the thoughtful debate on both sides of the idea too.

I'm assuming they combined their names b/c Apt Therapy as a whole got more clicks and they wanted to get more exposure for Odeedoh...and therefore more revenue. That's pretty much how this whole game works.

I don't mind seeing this type of post here, but then again I subscribe to the family channel. :-)

Also, what about a good source for mini crib bedding? I've really only found one source for that. Would love to see more options!!

Hi,
This is my kitchen, and it's very uncool to use someone's photo without giving them credit! www.houseobsession.com. Photographer Nick Steever. Apartment Therapy and The Kitchn should know better...this is a professional blog.

Hi again...I used Williamsburg brand paint. The darker green is CW505 and the lighter green is CW508. Again, thanks for the comments!

Hi all! I'll try to dig up the specifics on the paint color later when I'm at home (and re-comment). I saw that someone asked about the dining set. It was manufactured by Bramin of Denmark in 1965 and designed by H.W. Klein. It's solid teak with Rosewood insets. The seats are made of a twisted paper cording. I have no info on the little chair I just bought at the thrift shop. The wallpaper inside the cupboard is Graham & Brown for Umbra.

P.S. Thanks for re-posting on AT! What a nice surprise!

Agree with earlier comment about the back cabinets by the door. Perhaps you could remove the doors to make them open shelving?

I also think you should paint the dark cabinets white if possible to lighten & brighten the space...as well as make the cabinetry seem more uniform.

The flooring is awful...but replacing it with new vinyl squares wouldn't be very costly or difficult. You could update that for maximum impact with minimal effort.

Also, definitely think you need to switch the window shades to either a) nothing or b) white to help them disappear. I hate mini-blinds, so I won't recommend them but you could try 1" plantation blinds or Ikea sells an inexpensive sheer fabric window shade that is quite nice and looks like custom ones I've seen for major money.

Lastly, although I can see why you like the Goldenrod color to brighten the room, I have to say that I think it's a little too punchy and acidic for such a small space. A paler yellow or grey/blue color would work much better.

(Oh, and agree with the editor that the pink color in the other room has GOT to go. It's too flesh-toned.)

Glad I discontinued my subscription to Dwell. Philadelphia is a much under-appreciated city...and is far more than cheesesteaks. Spend some time here and find out.

Ralph,
Besides Weaver's Way (which may or may not be right near your new place), there's a great little produce market at the corner Greene & Harvey. It looks like a dump from the outside, but it's got a lot of great stuff at really good prices. I get most of my produce there.

Seems really impractical. I couldn't imagine cleaning it, and as another responder mentioned brushing my teeth in that sink! Ick!!!

I miss the old bagged vacuums. My bagless always break, the dust cloud is annoying, and the filter never seems to be clean.

Agree with what one of the replies eariler in that a true mixture of chairs will look like one detail too much. The room is eclectic and it's not like whatever chairs you choose will exactly match the table anyways. I do like the idea of the benches and a few chairs as another alternative.

Definitely NOT black chairs. Whoever said that above. Black is too harsh for what you've already got going on there.

And by the way...the room is stunning, as is the table.

I've had 3 roombas die on me. I had two (one for upstairs and one for downstairs), and both died. Then I got a third replacement...same thing. At this point....I'd rather vacuum by hand. It's just too frustrating, and although I like them, they didn't do a phenomenal enough job for me to keep shelling out money, time & aggravation.

I agree whole heartedly with the "Keep Calm and Carry on" posters. I'd be happy to never see another one. Also, not a big fan of the spray-paint DIY furniture that keeps popping up. It usually looks like crafty gone crazy/bad. Definitely not stylish or worth celebrating on a legitmate design blog.

In terms of the hate that MCM has elicited, I do agree that we've been seeing too much of it on sites like AT. I'd like to see more style VARIETY being featured. That being said, I have to admit that I do LOVE mid-century furniture and own a fair amount...but even I get sick of seeing it featured in every single post on every design blog.

RE: AT editing more - Since blogs require new material constantly to keep their readership, I empathize with the large design blogs like AT because obviously it's hard to find truly GREAT interiors all the time. A magazine like Elle Decor only publishes once a month and therefore edits their content to [theoretically] the best of the best. That's why those magazines still remain relavent. That being said, I still think that Apartment Therapy (and others!!) could stand to be more choosy than they're currently being. I personally can't read 35 new posts per day.

One last thing. I hope to never see another post about letterpress stationary again. Seriously?! How much time can we devote to stationary people?! How many of you actually write letters or send cards anymore?!
