I loved the video, but the mostest awesomest thing I've ever seen has to be the vampire skull record player!
I WILL make one of those!

This is all great advice (and Susan, I second the tip on the vacuum). As an interior designer, having kids really changed my perspective on all things design... But I was determined to not let my kids completely dictate my home design. I treated them like little, screaming clients ;-) I compromised with them, but ultimately stayed true to my design vision.

I'm happy to say that I won the war against the waves of primary colored plastic that I see swallow other new parents whole!

I actually just wrote a post about this whole topic (utterly shameless plug coming...) over at The Aedis...

Baby-Friendly Decorating 101: Rethinking Home Design with a Baby on the Way

I grew up in rural Texas, spent 8 years in Austin (which is one of the most amazing cities in the world), 5 in South Florida, and 5 in Los Angeles. I hated Florida. Los Angeles was great, especially as a designer, but having kids really changed what I looked for in a city, and L.A. didn't have it.

I ended up in St. Louis of all places, and it's fantastic.

I would NEVER have thought that I would live in the midwest voluntarily, let alone actually like it. I'm in Kirkwood, which is a fairly close in suburb of St Louis, but I have the best of both worlds - Life in a Mayberry-like small town (complete with a nice downtown, amazing parks, a real train station, and a farmers market!) and the big city at my doorstep. Being an interior designer here has been a challenge (My style is waay more New York chic than country), but well worth the trade off for a safe area, lower cost of living, a town with history and character, and great schools. And man, if you have kids, St. Louis is the place for you! There are more things to do with kids here than any place I've ever seen! The list is endless!

What Do You Look for in a Hometown?

@alainnotebook - I've had several people ask about that. I have them down there because the bedroom is right at the top of the stairs, so you can see under the bed as you come up. And I hated being able to see all of the stuff I have stored under it every time I entered the room. So the books block that view. And they're turned around to make them more visually unified. I've read them all anyway, so I really don't need to get to a particular book very often. The dust isn't bad either, I just sweep around them when I do the floor.
@Wendi255 - It's a vintage Bertoia side chair

Sorry zimmatic101, I found that bench out on a curb if you can believe it, when I was living in Los Angeles...And I'm so into the mustard and fuchsia color combo right now you'd probably have to pry it from my cold dead hands! ;-)

I haunt Treasure Aisle and the Green Shag. I also like Rocket Century's store, but it isn't the place to go for deals. I'm always on the lookout for pieces from the 70's...which are much less popular around here. Mr. Modtomic just opened a store in St. Charles too but I haven't checked it out yet... Shopping for modern stuff is really a struggle around here. Thank God for the interwebs.

Thanks Charisse! There are waaay better rooms in this contest though! I was hesitant to even enter, but I figured why not. It's fun. Thanks again for the kind words.

The Stooler by Andreu Carulla: Turn Any Object Into a Stool

I think it has potential. With the right object used, it could be really interesting. I suspect that it's only real limitation is the creativity of the user. I like the concept of being able to transform something that isn't a seat into a seat.

Cool! I just started a design blog too ( www.theaedis.com ). I'm still kind of trying to find my voice out in the blogoshpere, but I do want to talk specifically about local design when I can! It's funny that you write about midcentury design here...When I moved to St. Louis a little over a year ago, I thought that Missouri had just skipped midcentury design altogether. After living in Los Angeles and Austin, where it's really celebrated, it was hard to move somewhere where you have to really look hard to find it. I 'll definitely start reading you!

Yeah, I'm totally getting all the mileage out of this bedroom that I can! Thanks to Apartment Therapy for letting me enter it again! I swear it's the last time... Now if I could just get my clients to let me enter THEIR rooms here! ;-)

This looks great for a garden project I'm planning for a client! Simple, cheap, and easy - the trifecta. I do wonder about the watering issue too though. You may have to be conscientious about watering...

I like the look of black or near black on a wall, especially a bedroom. Few people have the courage or imagination to try it though!

To clarify (since my previous post is still here!), I think that they did a great job, and while it's not my particular taste, it looks roughly 150,000% better. Give or take a few %. Great job to all involved. I really wasn't trying to hate on the project... :-)
