To the folks who say "White gets too dirty, too fast," what colors do you live with?

But, um, were those raised panels lost under paint?? That would be a LOT of paint to be lost under!

You make the assumption that anyone with a budget has taste. And, well, that ain't the case (Donald Trump, anyone?) And you DO realize that this home is filled with parts of Lori's business, right? And that the piano is a family heirloom, right? (Just two examples.)

I think criticizing a home's design because it APPEARS that money was spent really does the talent of the homeowner a disservice.

Plus, even people who *can* invest in a home still have lessons to teach. To shut that down does YOU a disservice.

Should we limit tours to people who pull stuff off the street or the aisles of IKEA, and share 250 square feet with a roommate and two cats?

I hate coming up one tool short.

Why do some of you see this and assume "gratuitous"? I'm a graphic designer, and I collect letters.

And marlee, would you rather see it on a bedroom wall?

As noted above, the girls' room warranted a separate tour, coming soon.

The emphasis on the textiles was fairly integral to the story. And in that barest-hint-of-kitchen, you see it all.

johncb-- That bronze has a lovely story attached... another surprise birthday gift from Lori's husband, after Lori had admired it in a Swiss colleague's office for several years. There were so many lovely stories when we spoke, the written piece could have been three times as long!

By law, in Manhattan, you can't designate a room without windows as a bedroom.

It is painted... a pale, pale blue.

I think the shine and reflective qualities are really important to the success of this room, as is the greatly limited palette.

Floor plans, I think, Greg, are found on the 250 West Street project link above. Windowless rooms are not at all uncommon here in Manhattan in conversion buildings like this was.
