I am surprised how most people have opted for white here. When I look at the room I am reminded of a cold long winter (may be its the weather:)). Anyway the color on the wall simple does not do any justice to the beautiful beams. Love the fact that they have such a rugged look. The beams, mirror, arm chair and footstool points me towards a warm color for the accent wall (I am thinking yellows and greens) and then a soft creamish color for the rest of the walls and the ceiling. Also the lamp by the bed is too white. It will look great if painted black instead.

I remember using sliced okra to create such designs as a kid. the okra shape is more interesting. With this lamp it would be great if you could overlap these circles with circles of another color. Maybe orange or red or even green. It will look awesome.

I think you kitchen lacks some color. A few colorful accents will automatically distract the eye aways from the appliances. e.g. you can place a couple of bright jars/vases/pitchers on top of the refrigerator. If you do a lot of cooking then from utility point of few you WILL need a backsplash. You can make one with acrylic sheets and colorful fabric. It was discussed earlier here in AT(http://www.apartmenttherapy.com/sf/good-questions/sf-good-questions-how-do-i-create-this-fabric-and-perspex-backsplash-045486). If you make the corner preety you will not want to have to look away:))
good luck.

You have a lovely apartment with a lot of potential. Love your sofa and chair. But I wish you had done something about the bare naked windows. Curtains or nice panels would soften the room and make it look more sophisticated. Also the rug in the middle of the room is oddly placed, it also clashes with the sofa and chair. It would look nicer if placed between the entrance and kitchen. I love the rug under the coffee table though. Where did you get it from?

The linoleum floor is too distracting and very unflattering for your kitchen. Wooden floors will make a world of difference. May be you can stain it dark and paint the cabinets the same colour as the tile (yellowish beige) with black door knobs that will make an impact. Another option is to paint the doors black and the farme of the cabinet beige. That way the white appliances will not look odd with the tiles on the wall. yet another option is to paint the cabinets the same hue as the wooden floor but a few shades darker. please post after pictures and all the best with the make over.
