Houndstooth. Walls, floors, furniture - everywhere. And brass, as much as I wish it wouldn't.

Oh Thorndale, it's just not that easy. It's a nice dream though.
I would hazard to guess that all habits need to be discussed. But not to the point of a contract like on Big Bang Theory.

I have a friend that has one and he uses all but the top row to house/display his collection of laserdiscs. The top row is for displaying his movie replicas/props. It took a long time to convince him to do it. The end result was fantastic!

There are so many bird items in my place that as soon as a person enters they can tell I like birds. I LOVE that wall first on the second row!! I would really like to see it as tone on tone with matte and glossy paints!

You mentioned roll up curtains, why not a map? Like the ones above the blackboard in schoolrooms?

I live in Santa Fe, where cell service is always tricky. If I want to use my cell at home I must be in the kitchen or by the front door. You get used to it. I have a land line so it's really not all that big a deal. And I LOVE my apartment.

A bead stringing set that includes alphabet shapes. Too big to be swallowed, easy enough to stow away. Teaches both letters and hand eye coordination.
Puzzles, balls, and blocks are also great.

One other little note I would add; the closer to the holiday it is, the more likely your assisting clerk has dealt with a number of idiots. He or she is probably trying their level best to help you, so keep that in mind when you ask for help and find that they are currently helping four shoppers who asked before you did. Be patient, they WILL help you!

We had the litter box. The cats entirely refused to use it. But then they were kinda old fats and unwilling to put much effort into getting into their box. We gave it to one of my mothers co-workers I think.

Yeesh! It seems like we all have unpleasant memories associated with this time of year. Myself included. I'm of the opinion that as a whole, we should try to make the best of things. I try (don't always succeed) to do that, having a community of friends helps though.

Host gifts are not necessary every time you are invited over to someone's home, but for special occasions, you want to consider it. Wine or some kind of foodstuff if you don't know them like you know family. Otherwise, put some thought into it!

Personally I'm going with a rosemary plant. And assuming I can keep it alive (I could kill tumbleweed), I'll plant it outside in the spring.
When I was a kid my mom used to do a "waterfall" of lights down one of walls. It was really striking and MUCH easier to clean up than a live tree!

I tend to clean for guests. But then I am also the type to put chocolates on the pillows for overnight guests. But don't anyone look in my closet or my dresser drawers. I go for the SEMBLANCE of clean. A reasonable facsimile.

That vintage display shelf is a drawer for holding movable typesetting letters. I used to have one a few decades ago.
