Yes, my parents also got rid of their Hans Wegner folding rope chair. Believe me, I feel your pain. Brutal.

I'm FASCINATED by those drawers. Were they there when you got the apartment? They go into one of your apartment's outer walls, right? I want to know more about them.

Years ago, someone broke into my grandparents' house in Queens while they were home. When the intruder saw that people were there, he took off. My father decided that they should have some sort of protection, so he brought them a sawed-off shotgun. When he presented it to them, my grandfather waved him off and told him 'no' and walked away.

My grandmother said, "Show me how to use it."

I would love for the people who are actually voting for this one to chime in here. This one is just beyond me. drq, I was thinking the same thing.

I've been trying to be very polite and diplomatic about this whole process, but this one? It's a real disappointment that this contest, which seemed to be such a big deal for the AT faithful, has questionable entries like this making it so far.

Inger, your home is lovely. A crowning achievement in a COLOR contest, it is not.

Does anyone know why the NY Scavenger has become so few and far between? I miss them.

Honestly, I think the question is not what criteria the judges used when narrowing the categories from 40 to 16, but from narrowing the categories from 78 to 16. My hope is that in the future, the East is split up the way the West is. There were twice as many featured entries in the East as there were in any other region.

Personally, it's not so much of a lack of love toward neutrals. I think some of the neutrals and more subtle entries are done exceptionally well. The choices that surprise me are ones that are beautiful, but color is not the most compelling feature of the design. Though, no matter what, when you have a group of individuals who are bringing their own style, taste and preferences to judging something so subjective, controversy will be sparked.

Oh, and just because I'm posting this here does not, in any way, mean that I disagree with either of the options above, this just happens to be where this discussion is happening.

kdkaboom, I did something sort of like this recently. I was actually going for a bunch of separate framed photos, etc. arranged to add up to one piece above my couch. I don't know if it's random enough for you, but you can check it out here:

These days I like a combination of rustic and modern... it changes though.

Hmmm. Can't decide on a favorite. How about the one I've listened to quite a lot recently: The Darjeeling Limited.

All of Wes Anderson's soundtracks are pretty cool.

My books are still in boxes. I was thinking of doing exactly what is pictured above but hadn't actually tried it out yet. I will when I get home tonight. Anything is better than this:
