I store mine in a clean (or new) terra-cotta pot. I sometimes use the saucer as a lid. When I buy them, I put them in cotton or mesh cotton bags and then empty the bags into the pot. I do the same with my onions but they are in a different pot.

How about a discussion of the importance of ice, the function it serves in mixing the cocktail and the new shapes in ice cubes?

Here is another thought: You can roast the bacon slices (they stay straight when cooked) and then use this method to wrap and freeze them. I use parchment paper too. This way if you want a couple of slices for a recipe, you don't have to dirty a pan to cook them--just chop or mince (while still frozen as suggested) and add them to your recipe. It is also a faster way to have bacon for breakfast.

I do have to hide the package deep in the freezer or else it becomes a snack instead of an ingredient!

I use Mavea. The filters last 2 months in my single person household. I have not recycled the filters yet but I have them to send in. The recycling was the deal closer for me.

Krystal, you are so right! I want as few dishes to clean in the morning so I cook it all in the same pot. I soak the oatmeal overnight in the cooking pot, add the stock concentrate in the morning along with 2-3 handfuls of spinach. Bring to a boil, lower the heat, crack two eggs on top, cover and cook for 6 minutes. I do top it with hot sauce, sriracha, soy sauce or cheese...and sometimes with more than one of these!

However, on the weekend, I'm going to try your variation with curry powder and the onions. Brilliant!

The mushroom stock concentrate uses 1 tsp to a cup for reconstitution. And I think it's on clearance. It is out of stock on line but a store may still have stock. I know there is stock at the Grand Rapids Mi store. Get it before it is gone!

Charlieb: I would try Bar Keepers Friend instead. Use a little with a damp paper towel or a white scub Scotch Brite. Start with the paper towel and use the Scotch Brite if you get to a stubborn spot. After scrubbing, use a wet dish rag to wipe it clean.

I have purchased a bunch (5 stems) of Peruvian Lilies (also known as Alstroemeria) for as little as $2.50. Each stem has 4-5 flowers on it so a small bunch can fan out lovely in a vase. The lilies last 10-15 days for me and I am careless about changing the water. They don't smell as they age. Get a bunch that have mostly closed buds, they will open over time and last longer. I get white flowers in January, it signals freshess and a new beginning for me. But pick a color that makes you happy--they come in yellow, peach, red, pink, limey greenish...

I was surprised at how good chicken and pasta taste together. My first experience was Nigella Lawson's Chicken from the Venetian Ghetto. There are lots of recipes on the web. In spite of what they say, I add grated Asiago cheese for serving. I use leftover roasted chicken to make it but now I will now try braised chicken thighs.

I also use the grocery store salad bar: handful of black olives, tablespoon of real bacon bits, few slices of pepperoni, green pepper, fresh mushrooms etc. Some of these things I rarely keep at home. Freezing left over Italian Sausage, sauce and cheese is great idea. Thanks for the tip!

Using a metal baking pan or quarter baking sheet as a lid is a good idea. Make sure the lid is vented (or tilted) to let the steam escape. Doing this will keep the meat from steaming in the excess moisture.
