"We've seen this trend play itself out over the last couple of years..."

If one opens with the statement that the trend is 2 years old it is easy to label as a trend. If one actually looks back and realizes that globes have been part of decor schemes for the preceding decade (and actually their price in antique markets really started to escalate in the 90s), it looks more timeless.

someone will probably have a more definitive answer, but a couple of basic reasons are:
1. many of the works were individually commissioned, designed and built. so over a lifetime, around 500 structures built and 400 left standing is a pretty decent record.
2. as referenced in post #2 above, his structures require a lot of expensive upkeep due to the one-of-a-kind choices in design, materials and construction (see articles or a wiki on Florida Southern College) and Wright somewhat infamously favored design over sound construction (see articles or a wiki on Fallingwater) which leads to further cost.

These photos of Fawcett House are stunning.

i refer to the one on our neighbor's property and in view out our side window as a flag. it somehow makes us feel better about it.

thanks. i was actually just pondering thread count the other day. it's been a few years since we purchased new sheets and are due for a change from our old pairs. i thought 300 was a good number, but then all of the new 800 labels had me confused. it's nice to get some honest advice from a pro.

wow, i like the people created a profile today and then immediately left asinine comments with nothing constructive. people must be off to a miserable start of their New Year and looking to take it out on random people online.

the 'clutter' issue is hard with limited space. 2 things I would consider for making the place more open are:
1. moving what look to be storage/seating blocks away from the tv credenza. that would open up some space and allow the curio cabinet and shell chair some room (of course there may be no other logical place for them).
2. likewise in the bedroom i am wondering if there is any place on an opposite wall for the retro kitchen cart? it would open up some space there as well, and wouldn't crowd out your bedroom set. the rest of the furniture is nicely tied together with the neutral tones by the bedspread

The bed in the initial photo is a case study bed produced by Modernica. As another poster mentioned, it is a reproduction of an original George Nelson design, but finding the original would probably cost more for Modernica. In another thread a month or so ago, someone posted a homemade version that fit their budget.

As to answer my own question, we finally saved up for one and ordered the bentwood version of the bed. the platform wasn't necessarily to heavy, but being one solid piece it proved a challenge for our steep stairs. We ended up using a boom crane and sent it through the window. So my only advice on ordering one is that you need to make sure you have a way to get it inside and upstairs (assuming you have multiple levels or live off first-floor). It will not bend.

In the end, we love it and our glad we slept on an old frame for a while to save for this one.

i must have missed the part where decorative letters became passé. why must design be limited to fads, instead of things we like and might want to keep around for a while?

This looks a lot like the exhibit (which thankfully became a permanent installation) Chihuly did at the Franklin Park Conservatory in Columbus.

19 is a lot, but not spatially impossible or limiting (there are at least 15 designs, and variations on several).

but it doesn't bother me nearly as much as those herein who declare themselves above and beyond eames (exclusion for those who don't like mcm). they impress themselves.

i aspire for clean. i recently completed a project similar to the one in the photo. i have elfa shelving above my desk and there is some decent space between the desktop and the bottom shelve to accomodate a monitor and printer. so i ran 2 stands of picture hanger wire between my elfa brackets. i then purchased some stainless binder clips at target so that i can clip loose items to the wire. it keeps the desk clean, and items that need to be cleared (bills, lists, etc...) front and center so they get attention. it cost about $10.

STLMod or anyone else who has a Modernica case study bed. you mention it being very heavy, which is good once it is upstairs in our bedroom. but is it so heavy that we should consider forking over the extra $ to have white glove delivery to get it up there? we're planning to finally pull the trigger this week.

the light is one of those projects that might look good in this particular place (i need a full shot of the interior) but would look utterly atrocious recreated anywhere else.

the chairs on the other hand look really uncomfortable in any room
