Okay, just looked it up on google, and that is the same picture that hung in the Huxtable's living room. It's called Funeral Procession and is by Ellis Wilson. I always loved that painting on the show. Cool.

Lovely home, thanks for sharing. I love that the home tells a story. I was wondering if the painting/print in photo 7 (of the people dressed in black and white, walking in line, one woman has an umbrella) is the same one that hung in the Huxtable's living room on The Cosby Show?

Also, why is this home called Quaker? I understand that Germantown was a mainly Quaker settlement in the original 1700 settlement, but the above home is very clearly a Second Empire Victorian home; typical mansard roof,three-ranked openings, ornate brackets below eaves, and dormer windows on slope. Quaker homes are very simple; no shutters, small windows, side-gabled roofs, stone/brick exterior, and generally no decorative/ornate details.

My airchair is a rocker. If you breastfeed it really helps to make those late night feedings more comfortable. And the footstool is great too, if you have the room.

I noticed something similar in a neighborhood near me. My son and I always think it's funny when we drive past several houses that look like fat birds and one at the end that looks like a cat. We have a whole narrative that has evolved into something of a Tom & Jerry story. It makes us laugh!

I LOVE the model Gee Bee airplanes. I've seen the red one from Pottery Barn, but I think the price is too high and I'm worried about the quality. Does anyone know of another source for the model plane? Thanks!!!

Expensive, well-known art (in the abstract vein of the one this post shows) reminds me of Hans Christian Andersen's "The Emperor's New Clothes". Consumers of this type of art must defend that it is in fact special and difficult to reproduce to convince themselves that the high cost is justified. Sorry Basel wanna-bes, the emperor is totally nude, and the jokes on you.

So mradula should follow shockthebourgeois's GREAT directions and get creating!!!! And definitly put your signature on it, be pround of the ART you made.

I second pencils comment. What is nudik talking about? I know parents who have lost a child to SIDS, with no prior risk factor established. Parents should do anything they can to prevent this awful tragedy.

The floors are beautiful!!! Is that epoxy? I love it, but my family, sadly, could never have white floors.

This happens in three of my light fixtures. It drives me crazy. Does anyone know why it happens? Cheap fixtures? Everytime my husband removes one of the broken bulbs I ask him if he paid our life insurance policy. We still have one exposed in a ceiling fan that can't be easily reached. The potato idea sounds like it would work.

I like this a lot!!! I would totally buy it. It did make me picture a person going down the slopes in a chair, that'd be fun!

I really like this woman's work. My college roommate lived in Mali while working for Peace Corps around 2000. She sent me postcards of african dancers that were hand painted by local (black) artists that were beautiful, colorful and are very treasured by me. Gitte Brandt's paintings of african people are very similar to the work by black artists in Mali. I'm surprised people are offended by these pictures. They must also have their panties in a bunch over Robert Downey Jr.'s Oscar nod. Relax, people, it's art.

Beautiful!!! Great job on the room, the colors work together so well. I never would have thought of that paint color(identical to my bedroom color) for a bay's room, but it looks perfect. Audrey is also a beautiful name, it was high on my list for my daughter.

Thank you jennaelliot and bepsf: I had no clue what everyone was talking about. Okay, so I like the puff and (I'm now ashamed to say) I like Anthropologie. How does American Apparel "turn a profit" if they make their clothes in the US? If one man is worth a quarter of a BILLION $$$ it seems like they could pay a little more for the goods and still do okay in their profit margins. "If you give a man a fish, you feed him for one day; if you teach a man to fish, you feed him for a lifetime" I understand that it is a good thing to provide jobs for people, it is far better than handing out charity. What I don't understand is why someone like Dick can't be more generous, less greedy, and pay the workers a little more for the goods they make. I would love to sit down with Judy off the record and get the real story of Dick. She seems like a smart woman.

I have to say, I'm sad Domino is done, but lately I've been hooked on so many great blogs like AT and others that I don't think I'll miss it all that much. I'll get my insiration from here. Real people's homes are much cooler, original and interesting. It seems like most magazine homes are being staged to sell (many are), and it gets boring. So far, AT is NOT boring. Thanks for filling in the gap!

We have been sans a box spring for the past four years. We discovered (after 6 months with our mattress on the floor) that our bed was million times firmer without the box spring. So when we finally found the perfect bed we picked up slats from Ikea and tossed the box spring. Now my husband I don't roll into the middle (unless, of course, we want to ;) )
