Apartment Therapy New York | Good Questions: Identify This Color from CB2?

My whole apartment is a case study of grey/charcoal/navy, etc. The biggest and best advice I can give you is that any shade of grey OR charcoal you choose is going to look unique in your space. They change colors based on the lighting, surrounding furnishings, and the paint color you put next to it. My entire living room/dining room is a greyish color, but next to my ivory couch it looks blue. Next to the dark charcoal dining chairs it reads more true grey.

I would get a few fabric samples of the two sofas you're deciding between, and tack them up near where you would place the sofa. You'll probably like one immediately and want to toss the other.

As someone who frequently smells smoke from other neighbors smoking inside their apartments, or has to hang out on the pool deck with lots of people smoking, or has to have the elevators smell of smoke from people riding in them that reek of it.......this is something exciting. It's not restrictive, it's a choice to live there. It's like finding a place that allows a pet.

My answer is pretty similar. I have a pale grey upholstered cube where the top lifts off for storage, that I added chrome casters to. It used to be my bedside table when I had a bed low to the ground, storing offseason clothes. Then it was a side table in my living room, storing blankets. I used it as a coffee table base by adding a larger piece of round glass and stored things I rarely needed to access.

Now it's an additional piece of seating in the corner of my apartment, storing blankets again and being pulled over to use as a side table from time to time.

I don't think the table height rule is necessary. I don't mind if they're slightly shorter, I don't mind if they are the same height, and I don't mind if they are slightly (1.5" or less) higher. But when they start getting as tall as that picture with the componobili storage unit, it just looks silly.

My entryway is black - I love it. It's not a proper entry, just one long wall that's not far enough depth from the door to place a console table, so I hung a large, modern, white square mirror, got a groovy umbrella stand and a key hook and it works!

i think these are beautiful AND functional. That little finger hole for pulling them off the shelf is key.

I have always had beige carpet in my rentals, and I've found that it really just disappears into the background. Now, I paint all my walls (no wall left white, anywhere!), have lovely furniture and replace some of the light fixtures, but my eye goes to those things, and the carpet is just a nonfactor.

I like the base of the red drum lamp but would probably change the shade to something more my color scheme.

The rest of this makes my eyes hurt.

Yeeeeeah I wouldn't call Robert (Bob) Brown's style overly Southern. It's more of a transitional look that is popular overall, through the country lately.

In addition to being an extremely talented designer, Bob is also a wonderful person, and I am extremely honored that I know him.

Marthag: hahaha, I was about to recommend the Prismacolors as well.

I use them all the time. If they worked well enough in design school to create a "wood looking" piece of furniture or floor on my renderings, I thought for sure they could work on my wood veneer bookcase! Mix a couple of shades together and do a little blotting and BOOM, you've got a repair. It's not perfect, but the wax just hardens and comes out over time.
