We found these amazing LED lights which are inexpensive (cheaper than the LED tape lights listed above), SO easy to install and energy efficient. We used them for a bookshelf but they'd work great in a kitchen too. Smart Solutions: Under-Cabinet Lighting Best Products for Small Kitchens |

We built one and it was actually pretty inexpensive! (I think around $300?) I posted a complete tutorial on my blog: http://www.viewalongtheway.com/2011/07/our-diy-playset-part-1-the-tower/ What's That Backyard Play Set Really Going To Cost? |

I had to jump in and comment because your boyfriend may have the same issues my husband and son have. They both have fructose malabsorption, which means eating certain kinds of sugars (especially those found in fruits and vegetables) makes them lose weight. Kelly here. We had wiring just outside the wall, so we did install a switch, but the battery-operated LED lights would work great here too. Fluorescent lights were another option, but for a pantry as small as ours, the top shelf would block all the light. Hanging lights around the doorway made the whole pantry evenly lit. We didn't have a motion monitor and never missed it. Our monitor is voice-activated, so it's silent until the baby makes a noise, then it becomes audible. Worked great for us! Opinions on Baby Motion Monitors Good Questions |

We just built an upholstered bed kinda like the collette (you can see the process here: http://viewalongtheway.blogspot.com/2010/08/we-made-bed-now-well-lie-in-it.html) Should I Reupholster This Bed? Good Question |

We have beautiful dark hardwoods that show EVERYTHING. If I could go back, I would still get them (I know, I know, but I LOVE them) but I would get them in a matte finish. It's really the glossiness that shows dirt and scratches, not so much the color. Dark Hardwood Floors and Kids? Good Questions |
