JCHICKPEA - since it looks like a Swedish kitchen (judging from stove, sink and fridge), I'd say a good guess would be the Big I... (aka Ikea)

Thanks hsmom and Moonie for mentioning tree-farmers, I think we need to not create more unemployment or (for those of you against real trees) fossil fuel produced plastic tree's (which also use fuel voraciously in energy to produce them and to transport them to us if you are concerned about greenness - not to begrudge foreign nationals jobs of course).

And for those of us who don't live in houses planting tree's really isn't an option (though one could get a Norfolk Pine for indoors and decorate it) - I can't tell you how many tree's we used as erosion control at my parents place, who also planted a couple of small xmas tree's.

There is also a wooden alternative tree - from Minnesota of course - Possibilitree (not affiliated). http://possibilitree.com/

It almost looks like it might have been a parcel hatch at one time (depending on the age of your house). I would (I can't tell if you own or rent - I'm going to assume you own for my answer) check to see that it has been properly installed vis-a-vis fire ratings and if it isn't, seal it up correctly with insulation and appropriate drywall. This would eliminate the "problem" so to speak.

Er, yes, the extensions DO come in 15" width, for I have one which I purchased earlier this year. I'm just mad my width (like the 24"+/-) was discontinued..... Pretty nice hack too.

Much as I love IKEA they are in Holland to avoid Swedish taxes and social responsibility, even though most of their design is in fact done in Sweden as I understand it. It's kind of like being in Delaware (though more usually companies go to like Monaco, etc for the tax advantages) for American corporations due to incorporation laws.

I'm gonna have to read the full article now; they did indeed play upon the Folkhem concept.

funstraw - I think you are right, I took a gander at the blog and it's more of a PR/'regular design blog' related to their professional activities/taste/etc. One of the entries was titled "and god created the Swedish man"...

From the description of the blog, I'd say they aren't really following it strictly.

What's with the Owls? West Owl is full of them too. Is it the season of the Owl or something?

That's actually a pretty cool diy - it makes it better than just buying one to me. I'm not particularly keen on these though - I don't really like seeing the bulb, and maybe remind me too much of 70's birdcage/shade frame lamps.

Just as long as it's not a five-gallon paint bucket being used (or played)..

Seems like it works pretty well as a light source too.

I loved those Lundby dollhouses as a kid, tack så mycket Svensson! As a little architect the lights and furniture was so great (and I never had dolls either, just the house and furniture - in fact I built several dollhouses and cardboard houses).

@ Linky - only if they are hot water. If they are steam radiators, they need to be leveled and pitched correctly (or the valve cleaned or replaced) but some banging will happen when the system heats up from cold and hissing when air escapes from the valve. There's no bleeding with steam, in essence, they are self-bleeding.

Kelly - depends on what you have above them and if they are steam or hot water. Blocking the radiator could also be problem for heating performance.

Thorndale - yes, they do stage. Home staging has been a term in Swedish for at least 20 years (in English from what I remember).

Interesting that you have two photos from the same Goldberg Building (Astor Tower). I'm not really a fan of bungalows and their 2/3-flat cousins (floorplan wise, the kind where bungalows are just stacked), the rooms tend to be on the small side and don't have the greatest layouts.

I think Sweden is about the same as Denmark, but Norwegians typically have larger houses - closer to Australian sizes.
