I just bookmarked this with the title: Best House Tour EVER. I absolutely love it. Every single detail has been thought out and all I can do is admire the minds behind this home. I love the S chairs in the dining room. I love the office so much, the FLOR rugs, the Alexander Girard details...sigh. I will visit this tour again and again.

House tour please! I love this place. I love everything about it. I especially love the La Fonda del Sol rugs and the fantastic orange dining room. *Sigh* so beautiful. I definitely want to see more.

As always, there is no greater pet peeve of mine than when before and after photos are taken from completely different angles making it impossible to envision the transformation. Stand in the same spot, people!

Lovely! Wish I had the coin to go out and drop on a stack of Cherner chairs. I like the tiles in the bathroom.

It's hard for me to want to click through to read an article when there is a grammatical error within the first 4 words. However, my love for Eichlers won out. Beautiful kitchen remodel. How I wish I had an Eichler! I grew up in one and I'm SO bummed my parents sold it when I was four years old. Perhaps some day I will be so lucky.

I'm definitely in the "DON'T PAINT IT!" camp. I would try to restore it to its original look by trying the Restor-a-Finish and wax trick to clean it up.

Also, I don't like the idea of papering the inside. Just leave it wood. Wood is so lovely. Why ruin it by covering it up? The idea that lexixd had to put some orange cloth boxes in it as drawers is a great one. Definitely don't paint it white. UGH! It's a beautiful piece. Just needs a little TLC. Remember that less is more.

FYI, I meant "jealousy" but spelled it to look like a name just to be cheeky.

Why is she so annoying? Because she is beautiful, talented, and rich? Or is it because she's smart, poised, and articulate? Come on, people.

Annoyance, thy name is Jealousie.

It IS sad. Unfortunately, good taste often CAUSES financial disasters. Good for them for choosing to be happy and realizing that it isn't stuff that makes you happy to begin with.

Lovely home, lovely stuff.

My husband has a bunch of guitars and he keeps them cased. A few of his are high-end Taylors and he mentions that they need a specific amount of humidity which he maintains with a little humidor-type thing inside the case. He has another "beater" guitar that he takes camping, etc. I don't know how good your guitars are, but if you want to display them, make sure they are away from direct sunlight and not in a room that gets too dry.

Oh, I just read ECB's comment and it's pretty much saying the same thing.

One other thing my husband says is "Guitars are better played, not dis-played."

I am totally with prettypresley. I love the links posted above and think that either would work great. It is a truly wonderful table.

Nicely personalized space. Beautiful sculpture. I really want them to center the dining table under the lamp. It's just off enough that it bugged me in every picture it appeared.

So uh, where are the clothes??? On any given day my laundry room (which is very small) has two to five loads of laundry either waiting to be done, waiting to be folded, or folded and waiting to be put away. Two little kids, a husband, and a dog make it so that I could do nothing but laundry all day and never be caught up. It also makes organizing the space impossible. Believe me, I've tried.

Lovely spaces, totally unrealistic presentation. I want to see these when there is actual laundry being done (not staged orange polka dot sheets that coordinate with the wall color).

I'll file this in the "dream space" file.

Ha! Great post. I totally can relate, except on the other side of it. I recently went to California with our 3 yr old and 10 month old to visit my parents. I knew that my husband was going to try to re-do the floor in the bathroom downstairs. But when I came home, I found that he had not only completely gutted that bathroom, he had spread joint compound all over its walls to smooth out the three different types of texture that had been there. In addition, he had put in new floors, painted the cabinets, and replaced the hardware in the the bathroom upstairs as well as painted the trim in the bedroom. He was so thrilled to be able to bang around without having to work around naps and early bedtimes, he kind of went a little nuts. Unfortunately, the bathroom downstairs is FAR from being finished, but the improvement will be well worth the wait.

They obviously don't have kids. We have two kids and despite our best efforts (we are vegetarian, we compost, we recycle, I use canvas grocery bags, cloth diapers, napkins, etc...) we still manage to generate quite a lot of trash. I don't see how they were able to do that. I'll have to check out their blog.

I love the whole room, chair, table. It's fabulous! I would do a simple globe lamp with a low profile like this one:

http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/70096377

This won't compete with the hanging lights in the middle of the room, or block the window like a floor lamp would. You can run the cord behind the table and it shouldn't be too obvious.

A gnome is "modern"? Silly yes, modern...not so much. And I echo the anti-royal "we" sentiment!

I HATE it when "before and after" pictures are not taken from the same angle. It is absolutely impossible to tell what setup is better when the angles are different.

Seriously people, stand in the exact same spot to photograph. Better yet, do it at the same time of day so the lighting matches also.

I am not a fan of the yellow stripes and I agree that the rug should be under the table, not weirdly asymmetrical where it seems that all it would do is serve as a tripping hazard. But probably I'm just bitter because of the different angles in the photos.

Do the black wood and zebra, but strip the wood, sand it a bit, then STAIN it black instead of paint it so that you can see the wood grain. Seal it with a salad bowl finish, it's a little bit glossy, but it protects the wood.
