I can't stand it when adults don't know how to handle their utensils properly and grip them like they're toddlers. I'm American but I learned to eat European style while in college and I find it to be much easier and more elegant. What I REALLY hate is when someone goes to cut something and they hold the fork in their left hand like it's a gardening trowel and then saw away at said food like they're a cave man, THEN switch the fork back to the right hand and grip it like it's a trowel for shoveling the food into your mouth. Sorry if I sound awful, but I just can't stand this lack of manners. I can understand if your hand mobility is limited due to arthritis or something similar, but I just wish people would try harder to be more elegant with their utensils.

I will allow a kid (singular) into my home as long as they are well behaved. I will make sure their parental unit(s) are aware of any hazards and I expect them to make sure their kid behaves accordingly. What ever happened to the days when children behaved and listened to their parents??? I was brought up that way but nowadays it seems that so many kids are the total center of their parents' lives and those same parents somehow expect the whole world to child-proof itself so their precious offspring don't get a scratch or be otherwise inconvenienced. Sheesh.

Nice post and comments. I have 2 dogs and haven't traveled with them much but this article is a great start.

I have a lot of clover in my back yard here in Richmond, VA and over the last 2 very HOT weeks it has died in big patches and so the clover and grass are dying. The only stuff doing really well is the horrible crab grass which I'm trying to control by pulling it up by hand. So for me an all-clover lawn wouldn't work either. Any suggestions?
