I do have a lot of my recipes in my email so I can search for them there, but about a year ago I made a recipe binder and it's been the best thing ever. I bought a large three ring binder, clear page protectors, and sticky tabs to use for section dividers. On each divider page I have the name of that section, e.g. "Soups." In that section I've printed out all my soup recipes or taken the magazine pages and stuck them in the clear plastic sleeves, and then on the back of the divider page I list other favorite soups that are in cookbooks I own (I list the name of the recipe, book title, and page). That way all recipes I use, whether from online, magazines, or cookbooks, are in my master recipe binder!

Buy local! Shout out to Tremblay Apiaries, which sells at the Union Square Greenmarket in NYC. I love their honey!

I've never drank much soda. I wasn't allowed to growing up and never drank much after leaving home since I didn't much care for it and was too cheap/broke to spend money on it. Plus now I don't eat or drink anything with corn syrup in it, since it almost undoubtedly comes from genetically modified corn and I try to avoid all GMOs. Very occasionally I'll have an organic soda in a glass bottle, but that is a very rare treat. Much better on the body and the budget to drink water!

I use Applegate Farms organic smoked pork kielbasa for the sausage, organic French lentils for the lentils, and 1 tsp dried thyme instead of the rosemary. Serve it with hot, buttered sourdough toast. So good!

I really think the rise in food allergies has a lot to do with the increased production and consumption of genetically modified foods. I have stopped eating GMOs which makes eating at restaurants and even friends' houses next to impossible. But it's worth it because I feel strongly enough that genetically modified foods are that bad for us.

So refreshing to see a relaxed, happy looking party that isn't centered around perfect decorations and matching food. It looks like a great time. I love the photos.

We have Wedgwood White bone china. We love the simplicity and the shape and feel of the tea cups and bowls especially. And since it's bone china, it's super strong and durable. A friend's toddler was over and she knocked her plate on the wood floor with no ill effects. Not the cheapest, but we found a great deal on Amazon. Besides, it should last many years!

I just made the chicken in milk last night and it was fantastic! It smelled amazing while it was cooking, kind of an Indian dish smell from the cinnamon stick, and the meat was literally falling off the bones it was so tender. So good! I left it covered the whole time (though I pulled it out twice to baste it). Will definitely make this again.

When I was in San Francisco a couple weeks ago I ate at a Japanese restaurant that served what was essentially green tea gelatin / Jello for dessert. It was very firm and had a strange flavor; I didn't care for it at all.

I only have a hand mixer. I don't use it often, but am very glad to have it when it comes to whipped cream and egg whites. I make toast under the broiler and in the summer wish I had a toaster, but hate having things sit out on the counter taking up space and hiding dust and crumbs.

My mom has an old, super heavy grain mill that bolted to the table. She used to use it a lot, but hardly ever uses it now and has promised it to me when I have the space for it. I remember it was very easy to use.

I made my first cheesecake a couple months ago and did not use a water bath. It came out fine - no cracking and it cooked evenly. I thought it turned out delicious! I followed this recipe from Epicurious: http://www.epicurious.com/recipes/food/views/New-York-Cheesecake-102592

My mom's recipe that I love is similar to lona's above.

I just grate up a couple of carrots, dice up an apple or two, add some crushed pineapple (or the tidbits, either one in their own juice) and some raisins. Then I mix in a dressing made up of plain, low-fat yogurt with a little honey added.
