Please tell me more about your undercounter refrigerator! I am considering doing this in my own home. Is there a brand/configuration you recommend? We've been thinking of getting a fridge with a tiny freezer so we could still have access to ice upstairs. Your thoughts are much appreciated!

Do you have to do anything to the corks to clean them? I've been saving wine corks in a glass jar and every time I open the lid it smells strongly of wine?

I can't help but think the books need some kind of little rail to keep from flopping off the shelves?

One of the most beautiful tours I can remember. This looks like a real family home, complete with stray shoes!

Can someone please tell who or where the high chair is from? I've seen these in a couple tours and just love them.

People have started bringing me old furniture to refinish and rescue. I can't resist them, either. My basment is like a home for wayward dressers.

I would like to use butcher block countertops in my kitchen remodel but have been wondering about using them near a sink? I have an old porcelain sink that I would like to reuse as well. Any tips?

I have had a black leather sofa for a decade. I love that thing. Initially I thought was a bit much, but you know I don't even care anymore. It has proven its perfection so many times. We have spilled entire glasses of wine on it, scuffed it moving, and piled on two plus size humans, a meaty little dog, and an angry cat. Everything buffs out with saddle soap and black shoe polish. I actually don't think I would even consider owning anything else.

Shoes off seems like a waste of energy when my dog is usually running in the door after me or rolling around on the floor.

Sheesh. Larsson drops hints that Lisbeth has Asperger's throughout the books. Her mental inventory of every item she owns (and the technical specs) is a function of the condition. Furthermore, the shopping trip at Ikea, as @mitspeck said, is an attempt by Lisbeth to settle into a "home" for the first time in her life. Its also a clever bit of foreshadowing as all hell is about to break loose.

I think a menswear fabric, like a pinstripe, would look amazing with the wood. It would add a masculine edge and create more of a club look.

I'm with patrick (the other one)! It is for this reason exactly that I recently decided to opt out of all baby showers. Not only are they painful and generally alcohol-free (eek!), but I'm not having children and don't think I should be stuck buying a continued rotation of registry gifts. Everyone will get a nice children's book. Done.

I highly recommend making your own wash powder. Its a ton cheaper, works amazingly, and you can choose your own smell! In a pinch I recently tried Method and I think its the best eco-friendly AND affordable detergent on the market.
