Very cool. I've been trying to figure out how best to paint dark grey into my twin girls' room (in addition to pink - their request...they are 4 years old, after all), and was also thinking of using aqua as an accent. This room has given me some great ideas!

Like most readers, I prefer the look of modern, minimalist design, but to be perfectly honest, kids don't care, and all of my kids prefer the colourful plastic toys & gadgets. We had the jumperoo and exersaucers, and they just loved them. I had a doorway jolly jumper, and although they enjoyed bouncing in it somewhat, the Fisher Price Jumperoo was way more fun & exciting. I also have a beautiful PlanToys modern wooden dollhouse - my girls play with it *a little*, but they much prefer the plastic fisher price one at their grandparents house, and have asked me numerous times for a dollhouse like that one. I still try to balance good looks with practicality, but sometimes you just need a large 'tacky' jumperoo taking up space in your living room to keep your baby happy for a few months!

We have three different potties -- started with the larger Baby Bjorn seat (removable 'inner'), then moved up to the Bjorn toilet seat -- which is great -- we have two, one for each of our bathrooms. My 4-year old girls still use it - it is definitely required in our house (we've had a couple of 'falling into the toilet' incidents) - the seat is very secure on the toilet, so no slipping when getting on & off. It's also really easy for the kids to put on & off the toilet (we keep it on a hook next to the toilet). We also have a Potette - perfect for on the go. I just use regular trash bags, sometimes lined with a diaper to absorb the pee. I have 3 young kids, and this has been a lifesaver when out running errands, on a road trip, or at the park. It has been so nice not to either a) try to find a washroom, or b) drag all 3 kids to a dirty/germy bathroom, especially when out a the playground or in the car. It's a little low to the ground, so not good for a 'regular' potty, but fine for the occasional emergency when out of the house. Highly recommend!!

I've recently freecycled a lot of old toys -- some of which I slightly regret, but I'm still happy to be free of a lot of toys that were taking over the basement. I still need this cure, as my youngest is outgrowing his baby toys, and there are too many small toys that my older girls currently play with. Everything seems to migrate from upstairs to downstairs, and although things are *fairly* organized, this is an exercise that I seem to need every few months!!

One of my twin girls is pink-obsessed as well, and we recently celebrated their 4th birthday with a pink/'Belle and Boo' party. My sister-in-law made cupcakes with different shades of pink icing. I also decorated the food table with various glass cups/jars filled with pink candies, and had 3 different colours of balloons - dark pink, regular pink & white, in bunches around the room & at the front door. I also put some pink & white streamers up (minimal). I kept some of the other decor 'less pink' so it wasn't too crazy pink -- e.g. yellow floral table cloth, white dishes, multicolour banner. You could also get a bouquet of flowers in different shades of pink. As for pink food, I didn't do this myself, but you could bake some bread with red food colouring in it (so it's pink), then make tea sandwiches from that. Alternatively, white bread with strawberry jam and/or strawberry cream cheese could also work as pink sandwiches. Cookies with pink icing (or pink food colouring in the dough) is another idea, and a platter of different berries (raspberries, strawberries, blueberries & blackberries) is 'sort-of' pink...and to drink - pink lemonade (or pink kool-aid).

For activities, I pre-painted $1 wooden frames from Michaels (pink, of course), and had markers & stickers the kids could use to decorate their frame. That was a big hit. I also did the 'musical gift' game - wrapped an inexpensive toy in many layers of wrapping paper, and the kids would pass it around until the music stops. Whoever has the gift gets to unwrap a layer. Whoever unwraps the last layer, gets the gift!

The Flor tiles look great, but I actually have the Ikea runner in my kitchen - it's the perfect length (width) for my space, and it really warms up the room. I have 3 kids, and it is easy to keep clean (believe me...I had to clean a huge spaghetti sauce spill off it - my fault, not the kids). I wanted a gelpro originally, but for something that long, it would be very $$$, plus the colorful stripes & wool texture just add more character...and for the price, I won't feel bad to change it up if it gets ruined or if I want something new.

We chose the Oak Park set from Land of Nod - quality is decent (I have concerns about the finish chipping off easily - but at least customer service is excellent). It looks great & is very sturdy. Kinda masculine, but it was the only thing I could find for my twin girls that was modern & relatively inexpensive. We have the Olivia duvet & sheet set from DwellStudio Target, and I think it looks great! Not too grown up for 3yo, but not too girly or baby-ish.
