Definitely investigate environmental things if it's an old house. Some houses do make people depressed. (Lead paint, mold, other allergens, the type of piping, and the wiring). On those ghost shows they always try to pinpoint stray electromagnetic anomalies and other things that could be making people depressed or paranoid.

Get a stylish fan, if not a dehumidifier. Interior situated apartment bathrooms without ventilation are just asking for trouble. And really stay on top of any mold problems.

There's an episode on house crashers where they sheet-rock over an ugly fireplace and add a shelf for a mantle. You can also re-tile fire places.

I hate apartment repairs. I had a Denver apartment for 5 years, no problems. Then one winter the bathroom ceiling had this huge bulge the size of the tub. I called the emergency line & told them the upstairs pipe had burst, and they refused to do anything about it for 5 days since it was a holiday.

Then a week later my poor panicked downstairs neighbor pounded on my door-the same pipe system burst again, this time on her level and flooded her bed with scalding water while she was sleeping.

I demanded a rent reduction because I had been without the only bathroom for a week and a half in one month.

Their response? They evicted me since I was month to month.

Love it. Top row especially. I really like how the furniture items are all architecture features. Love that first bed nook.

I think it's tacky.

That first room upsets me. I think there are too many conflicting lines and colors.

Some of the floor manufactures have little tools online where you can pick a sample room and try out virtual floor and wall colors.

I HATE owning books. I don't re-read them, plus you can find anything online now.

Books live in the city library, and go back home when they're done. Then other people get to enjoy them as well.

It's easiest if you buy things that don't need much care. All of our small rugs/shower curtains, etc. are washable. Anything else can be vacuumed or sprayed with seventh generation cleaner and wiped.

I get annoyed with people who cook. I eat out & roommate food mess is my least favorite thing to deal with. I find that cutting down on the number of utensils you own really forces you to keep them clean. I tossed all but 3 forks in college and it ended the constant sink full of dirty dishes problem.
